Lazy parents drive me nuts...

How many people would actually own up to taking their kids to school by car when they could perfectly well walk? Those who live a good distance away need not comment as its not you I am complaining about.... its those that could walk but are too damn lazy......
The whole school run thing drives me insane... I live fairly close to an Academy and also two primary schools and a disabled school.. and the amount of cars at school times is horrendous... I have heard parents get out of their cars complaining about the parking and blocked roads and danger to the children . ARE THEY BLIND DO THEY NOT SEE THAT THEY ARE PART OF THE PROBLEM... One lady lives in my road which is a 2 min walk from the school and I have watched her waiting ages to back out of her drive because of the amount of cars going to drop off children and then drive to the school 250yrds away to drop off her child... IS SHE NUTS or am I just a moany old retiree who isn't moving with the times where all kids expect to be ferried to and from the school gate ..........
Anyone else driven NUTS BY THE SCHOOL RUN?

Yes - I frequently have my drive blocked by inconsiderate parking during the school run, and it's a nightmare getting in and out of the street around school times.
The ones I can't understand are the ones that arrive at school around 30 mins before it ends, just so they can park next to school. Most live within walking distance, so if they are prepared to sit like a lemon for 30 mins, why not just walk it?Here I go again on my own....0 -
I hate the school run.
DD goes to a welsh-medium school so the catchment area is wider than your average primary - therefore almost everyone gets driven to school. That in itself I don't mind, and there's a pretty large car-park outside the school grounds for parents which is handy.
The school itself is at the end of a cul-de-sac and we get letters home more or less monthly telling parents not to park and turn their cars around in the cul-de-sac. Do they listen? Do they sh**e!!!! Every day you get parents parking in the road and then having to do three point turns. And it seems to me that the bigger the car, the more likely the owner is to do this.
I really do wonder at the mentality of some parents and dispair!!!
JxxAnd it looks like we made it once again
Yes it looks like we made it to the end0 -
i have to drive my DD to school but usually share the school run with another mum so we are only using the one car and then we always park a few streets away so we can walk along with her other friends who live closer to school - it really annoys me to see some parents squeezing themselves into the tightest of spaces or parking on the pavement so that the children can't then cross the roads around the school safely just so they save themselves walking an extra few yardsi'm living in a parallel universe0

The residents association here got speed bumps in to cut down the rat running. Now if you drive down past the primary school you have to navigate the speed bumps as well as the lines of cars parked down each side of the road AND keep an eye out for kids running out from between parked cars. They have it so there's nowhere safe for the kids who walk home to cross safely directly outside the school. The stupid things you do, you regret... if you have any sense, and if you don't regret them, maybe you're stupid. - Katharine Hepburn0

We live within walking distance of school.(15/20 mins)
My dd walks to and from and has done since P2.
I take my ds to and from preschool by car, as he is only there for 2.5 hours, and the walk to/from eats into the only "me time" I get in a week, which is very precious!
Once he starts school in August, I'll be walking him too
Edited to add that I very often work till 3am , and am facing the day on 3-4 hours sleep so I'm just too tired for the walk!0 -
I don't think I ever drove the kids to school, it was quicker to walk them, walk home and then go to work. But I did sometimes pick them up by car if I'd come straight from somewhere else and I was running late or if we were going somewhere else afterwards. However I never parked inconsiderately, wouldn't have dared, the lollipop lady would have told me off! :rotfl:
the younger two are at secondary now and just occasionally I'll pick them up, but again don't try to park anywhere near the school!
Am I allowed to drive the eldest to and from Uni at the beginning and end of term?Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
I've had some "no brainer" parked across my drive when I've gone to go out, she's watched me get in my car, start the engine and still sat there !!!
so I got out, walked round to her side and tapped on the window to which I got "I will only be a minute " to which I replied " if you car is still here when I get back to mine I will drive into yours on the way out and it will be you fault as it's illegal to block my drive" .....she braved it until I edged forward and then shot off mouthing obscentities.....Ex forum ambassador

Get over it guys! If you bought a house near a school, what do you expect? Also, you only suffer for about half an hour twice a day, with 12 weeks of total tranquility a year. Many of us aren't just picking our kids up to go back home nearby, but taking them onto after school activities which aren't walking distance.
I drive a mini, and collect 3 children, so at least we are to capacity - if everyone drove an original style mini, there'd be loads more room on the roads!0 -
I don't expect someone to park over my drive and block me in...no matter WHERE I livedEx forum ambassador

I shuffled in here a bit guiltily to look at these posts because I do drive DS to school, which is within walking distance....easily.
But normally I am going straight to work afterwards or arriving straight from work and just don't have time to call home to either collect my car or drop it off first.
And at the moment I'm so heavily pregnant and have SPD so really can't manage the walk because I'd be in pain before I got half way there.
So I just wanted to say I'm really sorry for being one of those that you're complaining about, and I will be going back to walking once the baby is born"I wasn't wrong, I just wasn't right enough.":smileyhea97800072589250
