Was going to say a week has gone past but now read reading the end of your post it seems that option has vanished.

Find yourself a local Grant accredited engineer via HERE any old heatring engineer bod isn't necessarily going to be able to help you. Whoever comes needs to be familiar with the beastie and must be OFTEC.

Best of luck with your Grant boiler. If you ever get it sorted let me know. Ours has been playing up from new for 13 years we have had Grant, oil fired experts etc etc here. Your photo of the boiler was horribly familiar. At the moment it is losing pressure through the pressure relief valve. My serious advice is to buy and install an new, non-combi boiler. We could probably have bougth 2 with what we have spent so far.
