Hi, Can any one please help me? every time I put on my hot water my heating comes on as well regardless of what temperature my thermostat is set at and the whole place gets really hot. This prevents me from keeping my hot water on as often as I want to. Does anyone know how I can rectify this. I have got one of those boilers that do both electric and heating but the older type. I have tried using the manufacturers settings still no luck. I can't afford to have central heating running when it's this warm. Help!! My boiler has Wickes 40/50 on it if that helps anyone.

Not over familiar with that type of boiler. However your symptoms seem to sound like the diverter valve/zone valve/mid position valve is passing. It will depend on the type of system you have as to which valve you have.0

Sounds like the 3 way valve has stuck open. Can you find it as there should be a manual overide on it I think.
In the short term you could turn all your rads off leaving one open say in the bathroom that way you would not be heating all over. Also turn the stat on the boiler to low so the water in the system does not get so hot. That would give you time to sort out the problem without. using so much gas.The measure of love is love without measure0 -
Had exactly the same problem just last week. Was the valve as suggested above. Valve & motor replaced, not sure of costs as done under BG service contract - works fine now...

We had the same problem when we moved into our house, we had to have the valve and motor replaced, it cost us 160 pounds.0

OR - you have a single channel timer clock for your heating and hot water, so they are always on (and off) at the same time.0

My daughter had this problem in her council house , she had to turn all the radiators off in the summer but some still got a bit warm.. then one day a man from the council came to service the boiler and she happened to mention it to him and Lo and Behold he said , don't you know there is a summer/winter valve.. he showed her where it was and it is literally turning a valve on or off... its even marked summer/winter.... not sure where it was maybe in the airing cupboard.... anyway just an idea not necessarily whats wrong with yours thoug....#6 of the SKI-ers Club :j
