FWR u.til you have permission to post on behalf of forces war records from MSE then to be honest you could be anyone?0

I would strongly suggest anyone avoids this site. It contains very little on any worth that cannot be found elsewhere for free. War records of my family in WWI do not exist on this site, as claimed.
Huge sections from units, to ships, battles etc are non existent and it has a very, very amatuerish feel about it - with very minimal content.
An absolute waste of money.
It is best summed up by these words that describe the benefits of you linking your site to theirs.
" you can make a great second income by earning commission on this lucrative market.."
lucrative market, eh ?0 -
This outfit is very crafty. They let you access supposedly 'Free'. When they have your email they will contact you to say they have found records and if you subscribe at a so called 'reduced' fee you will have access to these records. What they don't tell you is that, for example, in my case I wanted information on my dad who served on D -Day, but they cannot supply any info because the MOD haven't released the records and won't do until 2019! So why don't they tell you that before you part with your cash. Please be aware of this outfit as they will take your money and continue to take it if you don't unsubscribe in the 'Your Profile' page. Phrases such as 'Don't hang around' and spelling such as 'Serjeant' should be treated with some caution. I didn't and its cost me a fiver! This is an absolute disgrace when people are genuinely trying to gather information on their relatives. You have been warned!!0

I'm surprised that FWR is able to use a Credit card as if it were a Direct Debit. My FWR profile states " We do not currently hold any credit or debit card information for your account" and yet 2 payments have been taken and no doubt more if I hadn't stopped the payments. I've closed my Barclaycard account as I'm not happy with FWR having access to the card details.0

Renewals of ‘Full Membership’ will be taken automatically if you paid by credit/debit card (unless you update your account to signify you do not wish this to happen), unless your current card fails in which case we will send you an email informing you of such.
There is an option to not have payment taken automatically from your profile after paying for your first term of ‘Full Membership’.
What this means: We may change prices and the amount of time you get for each payment, but we won't change the terms you agreed to if you are already a ‘Full Member’ unless this is affected by clauses 13 or 14 in the terms below.
Your initial payment will allow you to use the site for the time you have selected, we allow you to extend this period by having an automatic renewal system option selected upon payment. When you pay there is a check box you should leave 'ticked' if you want us to renew your membership every month. If you don't want your membership to be automatically renewed and be charged recurrently after the initial subscription then please switch this off by un-ticking the check box (details on how to do this are below).
How to cancel payment of subscriptions and edit your profile on Forces War Records
1. Log into your account by using the ‘log in/register’ button in the right uppermost part of the page.
2. You will notice now the same spot has ‘your email address’/your profile/logout’ displayed.
3. Click on ‘your profile’
4. You can now:
View and amend any saved records and units
Alter your existing email address
Choose whether to receive emails or not from us
Choose whether to renew a paid for membership or not upon expiry
Change your password.
You can switch this off at any time, or you can contact us and we'll gladly do this for you.
Thanks for that, I saw this too, followed the instructions and changed my settings no problems at all.0 -

Did you read their Tutorials?
Its a good place to start and they do provide the information.
Serjeant was the ORIGINAL Spelling of the rank Sergeant. Some Regiments still retain the Old Spelling to maintain Tradition.
Did you contact their Help Desk? they found records for me, although they did not hold t they did point me to several locations to find several Documents for relatives who had emigrated to Australia and one too Canada.
I did note that they advertised a Free Search and then to view a record they did ask me to make a payment to view it. But then so did Findmypast and ancestry.
I think it is a normal proceedure as the National Archives have a free search facility and I had to buy the document they held.
Which was only a medal card, no history at all for my GGGrandad who served in WW1, luckily throughout 1914 to 1919. I would have thought there would have been more! But War Records had a little more also, 2 promotion entries for 2nd Lieutenant and Lieutenant dates of promotions.0 -
I too have just received my credit card statement today, and noticed that forces war records have taken two months payment when I only signed up for a one off payment for one month only. I am livid. I thought I had checked all terms and condition very cardfully. Will be on to them.
Have you contacted them at all?0 -

Most likely the same as available from the London gazette, which is completely free.I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.0
