I am gutted - I've only just seen that Debenhams had Articulate for £16 in the sale. Needless to say that it's sold out now!0

I love Carcassonne - its a tile playing game which can be played on a few different levels so suitable for a range of ages and you can add to it with expansion packs if you want to vary it a bit. It also looks very pretty! And it's not Monopoly!

I love this one - full extension marathon can take 4-5hours(including the time it takes to nit pick the rules :rotfl: ) definite favourite in our house
If we have lots of people then "bang!" is awesome

We also like ticket to ride and bohnanza (where you trade for beans)
Not sure they'd be age appropriate though.:staradmin:starmod: beware of geeks bearing .gifs...:starmod::staradmin:starmod: Whoever said "nothing is impossible" obviously never tried to nail jelly to a tree :starmod:0 -
Hi,
Hope you don't mind me jumping in.
There are loads of games you can play that aren't completely mainstream like Monopoly etc. However they are a lot of fun.
Ticket to Ride
Tsuro
Zombie Dice
Gloom
Rory's story cubes
If you and your friends have a "Wrong" sense of humor, check out a game called Cards against humanity. You can download a PDF of their cards for you to print off. it cost me £12 at the printers, however it took me hours to cut them out. - Not a child friendly game.
I'd recommend checking out the YouTube channel Geek and Sundry and their show TableTop, hosted by Wil Wheaton
Be warned though, I spent a bomb because of that channelHowever loads of fun has been had by my friends and I.
Anyway, I hope this helps

Carcassone is good for children. My friends even got their 4 yo to play (with help).
If you're willing to branch out into card games as well, then fluxx is excellent and really easy. Guillotine is good too.Mortgage when started: £330,995

Settlers of Catan is one of the best board games I've played.
The gumph says it's for 10 and up, but I reckon most 8 year olds could manage - it's no more complicated than monopoly, really.
No two games are the same and you can expand it if you start to get bored. Really good fun.0 -
We have a games night as a family every week.
Favourites are Ticket to Ride, Settlers of Catan, UNO, Phase 10, Blokus and good old fashioned Cluedo. When we have a larger group, we enjoy team games like Cranium too.
My daughter's 8 and copes with all of these really well. As a starting point I can't recommend Ticket to Ride highly enough. It's not cheap, but we've had our money's worth a dozen times over so far in terms of cost per hours played...0 -
The Logo Game and Telestrations, the latter is one of the funniest games I ve played in years!0

I don't think anyone has mentioned Triominoes. Triangular shaped dominoes. We love this. A 3 yr old can join in with some help, but adults love it too. It improves quick arithmetic skills for kids. Part luck, part skill.0

Labyrinth Can be understood by quite young children.
RummikubLike a card game, but not.
Black box Seems this is vantage now, older children only and need to understand the rules before real enjoyment.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards.
