Septic tank- need something else

Options
Hi

I've seen a rural property with not enough land for septic tank for human waste. Planning permission is an issue without waste management. What other options do I have please?

Cheers

Maybe it's not a residential building? Maybe an old barn or chapel?

would a land owner next to the property be willing to sell a small section beside the building to allow a tank to be installed

OK good point so possibly a redevelopment/conversion project. My mindreading skills are less than optimal tonight obviously. Why can't peeps give a fuller picture do you think?

How big is the plot? We are not told. A mini-treatment plant big enough to cater for 6 people requires a hole approx 6 foot across and approx 8 feet deep. Not an enormous amount of real estate required.

My folks septic tank is in the farmers field adjacent, once its in the ground all you see is the manhole cover so no real loss of grazing for the farmer. is there no land adjacent that you can come to some sort of agreement with the owner?
Failing that what about a compost toilet
  • Is there mains drainage a distance away ? It would be perfectly feasable to install a small submersible macerator pumpset in a manhole sized sump and run a small diameter discharge main . Thing is how far would you have to go ?

My fault its an old chapel at present. No electricity, water or gas. I am thinking of renovating it to a one bed house with one large open plan downstairs.

What's a compost toilet? Never heard of one of them before? Rough cost please?

Neighbour won't sell land and even if he does he'll want too much money for.

For one bed house how big septic tank would be required? How do you go about installing a septic tank / mini treatment unit?

    Cheers

you don't just need the land to install the tank, you need a bigger piece of land to install the soakaway drainage. The size of this is dependant on the porosity of the ground. Im guessing the property was really cheap?

The problem with septic tanks and mini treatment plants is that they still need somewhere for the liquid discharge to go. If you don't have access to land you are up !!!! creek without a paddle (sorry.)

Is there enough room for a cess pit?
