Would this be any good for my 10 year old. He's been asking for a telescope for a couple of years now. But i didn't want to waste money on a cheap toy version which would only leave him disappointed.:TIs thankful to those who have shared their :T

How far can you see with this telescope?I hate migraines.0

You can see for as far as the eye can, however it can magnify objects by 80 times their original size.:A:dance:1+1+1=1:dance::A

I've reserved one for collection in store. I shall ask them a few questions about it before picking it up etc etc. Jessops are usually pretty good at letting you try stuff out first, if they have one made up ready.
P.S cookie monster - I hate migraines 2.:TIs thankful to those who have shared their :T

The general consensus is that you would be better off getting a pair of binoculars rather than a small objective reflector like this.
A cheap telescope will most likely have lousy optics so you will get blurry images which could lead to disappointment.
Also due to the size of the scope, at higher magnifications it will struggle to gather enough light to produce anything but a faint image. At lower magnifications it might not be so bad but then you might as well buy binoculars as they are cheaper and far more portable and even at 10 or 12x magnifications the Skies can still amaze.
This is what Patrick Moore recommends and he knows his stuff!
If you want a decent starter telescope you need to get a 6 inch reflector but that will cost quite a bit more than 40 quid sadly.0 -
