Hi - I have an iPhone 3GS which is in good condition and is fine for what I need it for. However, I recently won £50 on the O2 Money Wallet machine which requires me to download the App. When I tried to do this it said my iPhone didn't support iOS4.3 and I needed to upgrade the software. I phoned Apple who suggested I take my phone into an Apple Store but there isn't one near where I live. My friend seems to think I can do it myself but I can't find an idiots guide on the Apple site.
Can anyone help me please? Would be very grateful - I'm not very technical so it has to be simple.

Your model can be upgraded to iOS 6.0 -
You should be able to update iOS using itunes. It should check for updates on connection unless you've disabled auto updating. How do I add a signature?0

Indeed, Update your device using iTunes(link in the middle of the page)0

I had this with an iPod and an old Mac Book. The iOS update required a newer version of iTunes than the version of OSX on the Mac Book would support.
Is it this kind of problem that is preventing you iPhone updating.
I wouldn't take an iPhone 3GS beyond 4.3.50 -
Thanks to all of you for your advice. I will give it a go when I get home.0

Don't shout at me if I am mising something, but I have a 3GS and simply go to SETTINGS - GENERAL - SOFTWARE UPDATE to do it. I updated (takes a while) without problem to 5.1 and it works fine. I have hesitated for 6.01 simply because of space (uses more than half a gig).0
