aww big hugs but it's probably the kindest thing to do
  • So ..... just a quick update to say I've found Mia a new home

My pal who came to stay in July (who I've known since Primary school!) is going to take her :)

Best possible outcome ..... I know she'll be well loved and looked after AND I can get updates of how she's doing :T BUT .....

She's my baby girl :( and I just can't imagine her not being here & how quiet it will be ....

Love Archie to pieces too - but he's a bit of an anti-social sod as he goes out 1st thing and comes back at bed time so I hardly ever see him - he's not a cuddly cat .... hates being picked up etc

It's Mia who sits on my knee in the evenings and follows me around and wants (and gets!) cuddles .....

Maisie's going to miss her too as she's her company during the day when I'm out

Really can't believe it's come to this .........

  • Oh Rising really sorry to hear that :(

This may be a silly question and won't be any easier, but if Mia is the more people-dependent one and the more restricted in which homes she could go to, would it be any more feasible to rehome Archie?

Really glad your friend is going to take her though :)

How's things with you other than with the menagerie?

  • Hi Rosa you would think so BUT Archie is 4 years older and really is anti-social - I came to the conclusion that most people looking for a cat would actually want one they see / interact with  - and he really doesn't like people and has only just started letting my next door neighbour touch him ..... after 6+ years  He's also pretty safe here - I have a field at the back of my house where he potters around all day so he doesn't need to wander far

Can't believe she's going ..... I'm an emotional wreak - relieved one minute as the house is pretty tense - Mia's jumpy ...... Archie's a nervous mess .... and even Maisie's really unsettled :( (my Dad actually asked yesterday what was the matter with her) - then bawling my eyes out the next at the thought of her not being here

I've slept in the spare room with her the last couple of nights (haven't done it before now as know it couldn't be a long term thing) and she's been out for about an hour this morning. She did eventually come downstairs but Maisie was a bit wary of her (she got a big fright when they were fighting) and she had a bit of a cuddle on my lap and then went back upstairs again

I'm really, really dreading tomorrow - it's also quite a long journey & she doesn't travel well. I got some tablets from the vet the other day so really hoping they do work and take some of the stress away for her.

Hope to god she settles in her new home - I've warned Nix that she'll probably hiss at them for the first couple of weeks (Mia's 1st line of defense when she's unhappy / stressed is to hiss / grumble)

Why oh why did it have to come to this?:(

Been there with a dog we had to rehome, as it started to fight with our other one. Felt I had let the dog down but knew it was for the best. Now quite a few years later I definitely knew it was the best option. The dog went to a home that was used to having dogs and he even had his own chair and was well loved. I never want to go through that decision again and in future will stick to having just one dog. Before we decided to have two dogs we spoke to a lot of people who had more than one dog and they all said go for it , it was great having two dogs. Later when I spoke to them about having to rehome one they all said that they wished that they had rehomed one cos they where having problems with having at least two or more dogs, mainly due to fighting.

Give it time and you will know you have made the right decision, you have to think what is best for the cat.x

  • Thank you Amber ..... I'm trying to focus on the positives but it's sooooo hard *sigh*

Funnily enough, I'd love a 2nd dog but have heard a few horror stories about people that've taken a 2nd and had huge problems - it's the one thing that puts me off

I've just been speaking to my pal to sort out what time to meet up etc and she and her son are really excited :) so I do know she's going to a good home - I've also warned Nix that Mia will probably hiss at them for at least a fortnight as it's how she deals with stress :(

At least she has met her before & knows she's also a cuddly cat:)

Can't believe this time tomorrow she'll be gone .... and I'll not have my baby girl to pick up and get big cuddles from :( (Archie's never been a cuddly cat, even when little)

*sigh* - I do wonder sometimes why we have them - we give them all our love but they all end up breaking our hearts one way or another

Hi Rising, I was coming online to (in an sheepish way) dust off my diary, spotted you were posting again and couldn't fly by without stopping

Really sorry to hear about Mia going :( It is the right decision by the sounds of it but that doesn't make it an easy one. Hopefully there will be more peace restored at your over time.

When did you say you go back to full time work? That will at least be a breather for finances xxx

    Catch you soon
