Are AMEX credit cards harder to be accpted with, compared to others?

There is a limit but you don't see it and it's dynamic based on how much you spend. You are advised to notify them before a big outlay or they may block it0 -

It is a bit of a marketing ploy as evidently there is a limit but its just not published and a little more sophisticated than a traditional limit.
So I had an issue with a travel agent that put through a transaction 3 times by mistake taking my card to a rather high number and AmEx called to advise I needed to bring the balance down before the statement due date and until it was brought down they'd block any single transaction over £1000
