I just see from the rising cost of fuel that many many more folk have been plunged into a very dark place. Yes we as a country are skint but surely their is a better way of dealing with it. And we are not talking about the money men speculating to force up prices for big profits0

Yes, agreed - awful the way not all of us are skint! Osborne photographed at Champagne Ball last week - the tickets were £400 ! Four Hundred Pounds!! Can you believe that? While lots of us are facing up to having to sorn our cars, makes me feel sick! All In This Together? hollow laugh.... Its his falling pound thats pricing ordinary working dads and mums out of the market! A mansion tax and reversing tax breaks for the rich would be a much fairer way of balancing the books.0

As we already established, it was a fundraiser so he didn't pay £400 for his ticket.0 -
In most areas councils are getting rid of librarians, help desk staff, social workers, public health inspectors, childrens services etc. These are genuine economies that impact on services. While they probably represent necessary savings in the main they are not non-jobs.
Which is madness! I find it an utter disgrace that when you look around at what Councils are cutting, it is the vital elements of public service and social cohesion that are being ruthlessly chopped, whilst the abundant and exhaustingly expensive layers of management, consultants and advisors are kept on and ring-fenced. Most of this is a return to the disgusting old days of political scorched earthing by politically motivated leaderships.
Many local councils and authorities have been rightly admonished by Eric Pickles for having vast sums of capital reserves available (indeed, not just available, but being ADDED to!) whilst simultaneously slashing the "coalface" workers and services, blaming central Government. (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2275882/They-squeal-cuts-truth-town-halls-spending--fleecing-you.html#axzz2KKhjAZDc)
One only has to have a vague trawl through the Guardian Jobs section and local council websites to see just how many "non jobs" are still being advertised at ridiculous salaries.
So, I agree with you Bob that these are absolutely not "non jobs" being cut. I would seriously question however the NEED for many of these cuts, if more pragmatic, less politically motivated leaders were in charge of implementing them. But then again, LAs have been Empire building for decades now; when was the last time you ever saw a headline saying "Council Slashes Management to Save Services"???!!!

Looks cheap. Here is a cut-nd-paste from an email a Labour Party member friend of mine got in June 2012......Highlighted the important bits so that even you, DLW, cannot ignore it (although im sure with your industrial grade blinkers on you probably will.....)
Dear .....,
As you may have seen via Twitter recently, the Labour Party will be holding a Sports Dinner on 11 July. The dinner is a national party fundraising event, to celebrate an incredible summer of sport and the sporting legacy the Party left the country.
Following our success in the local elections, the Sports Dinner will be an opportunity to raise vital funds towards recruiting new organisers across the country. This will represent a real push of National party funds into helping local constituencies. This means, however, that tickets cost £500 a place.
Tickets are selling well, but we want to ensure that every member gets a chance to attend the dinner, so we are opening a raffle for two places on the top table with Ed Miliband at the dinner. Tickets for the raffle will cost £5 each, and the winner will be drawn this Thursday 28 June.
To buy tickets for the raffle, click here.
Opening with a drinks reception in a leading London sports venue at 6:30pm, guests will enjoy a range of sporting-related games and have the opportunity to view a special range of sports memorabilia. The three course meal will then begin at 7:30pm, with speeches by the Leader of the Labour Party, Ed Miliband and former Prime Minister, Tony Blair. Hosted by a world famous entertainer, we will be joined on the evening by leading sports stars and celebrity guests.
Good luck!
Alastair Campbell
Or, how about 2007 when your hero Gordon Brown was charging £1,000 a pop for the pleasure of his company?

In short, sort yourself out you embittered Troll.

Depends...was George's champagne ball hosted by a world famous entertainer? Did George invite celebrity guests?
Did George organize a raffle for those who can't afford the entry fee?0 -

I'm sure he won't. He's the sort of muppet that thinks the left has the moral right to do anything but that everything the right does is morally repugnant, even if they do the same thing!0
