I hope your brother, or should I say you
, has caught it in time. I agree with what you say - we have a good friend with a terminal illness and my response has been to make me even more determined to get to security (well, Spain
) rather than think sod it.
Vintage van sounds great but am guessing no flushing toilet so count me out :rotfl:
I always think of Happy Days when you talk about your kitchen btw :rotfl:A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effortMortgage Balance = £0

Hi Kirsty, completely agree with you and GG. Losing people, or serious illness does make you think, but like you both, it just makes me want to clear the mortgage ASAP. That way we have complete security in terms of home and can spend on a night out, or a holiday when we feel like it.
I listen to people at work who say they are only living for the now and spending their money as they've lost people at fairly young ages. However, their future still needs funding.
I guess it depends what your aspirations are but I don't desire new clothes every month, or dinner out every week. I do want to take our kids on a far eastern holiday once, and spend a week or two in Scotland driving/sightseeing. After that, I'm more than content to live a simple life.
Sorry for hi jacking your diary, but it really made me think.

oh lord - you are not hi-jacking my thread, Tilly...I am delighted to have folk reading and you two are such an inspriation to so many people here that it's an honour. And gally, the kitchen makes me think of happy days too - although it's not everyone's taste. As for the van, i have a portapotti thing that is coming with me - i don't do trips to public toilets at 3am!:rotfl:
Chicken tonight with skirrlie - try that when in Scotland, Tilly..but OH came home early and thought the fishcakes were crochettes so had heated them up and served with the chicken...unusual, but tasty just the same! chicken soup and homemade pizza tomorrow prior to our dancing class.. mortgage 2 87,000 due 51,686.76 at july 2013, but then:new home and remortgage ... £101065.43:eek: now 74k

spoke to my brother last night, he is still waiting for tests, but sounds like he is holding up ok, going to see him at weekend.
This is the quiet time of the month - no money moving around, although i had to buy petrol and have a party plan thing on tonight that means another bottle recycled from the leftover booze from christmas. tea last night was tortillas filled with peppers, onion, cheese and tiny bit of leftover chicken - everyone loved it and want it again. Reciepe was from the campervan cookbook my OH gave me for my birthday (you see how determined he is?)
Tea tonight is fish fillet - thats the last bit of fresh food from fridge so will have to start defrosting stuff.. mortgage 2 87,000 due 51,686.76 at july 2013, but then:new home and remortgage ... £101065.43:eek: now 74k

still no pay, i was hoping our manager might have been kind and paid us early - now down to £100 in my account and need some for an appointment today. spent £24 last night at spa party - but had a great night with my pals who i haven't seen since beginning of month.
Tea tonight (burns night) is haggis - vegatarian one for me and son cos hate the thought of whats in a real one. I was a butchers daughter and brought up to know the products that butchers can pass onto the public. OH and daughter don't care so they can have the real stuff! And a whiskey sauce...
Going into town so will pop into john lewis to claim my free coffee and cake for january. mortgage 2 87,000 due 51,686.76 at july 2013, but then:new home and remortgage ... £101065.43:eek: now 74k

oh dear - went a wee bit mad in the sales, although in my defence i got paint on my only pair of jeans 6 months ago and have been needing a replacement pair since...and they were only £10. 2 jumpers and a cardigan for work for just over £55 from my favourite shop too is good value i think.
But no wages yet - and need all spare pennies for tax bill
Got our statement in from building society - we have overpaid by £4000 since august and they have reduced our direct debit by £78 a month - which will just be more overpayments. We kept the term of the mortgage in case we need any further borrowing (hope not), so have another 162 months still to pay.
Tea with my brother last night - he is still waiting for his tests so not much to be said really. He bought lamb hotpot from shop - was yuk..they don't go in for home cooking. I had some veg in the fridge starting to go soft so made 2 pans of soup and have frozen them for quick lunches. Tea tonight is leftover haggis, neeps and rosemary potatoes. (might have bought an accidental meal deal from m&s when out shopping:o)

thank you for the good wishes. No pay yet..and when it comes most of it will be going to credit card for tax bill
so will be a hard month or so until that is paid. Got a nice treat today however, going to the theatre to see Ghost. Got the tickets from my parents for our christmas so a free night out :j Was going to have a meal first at our favourite Italian, but just been sent a voucher for pizza place with 40% off so will head there instead.
Have been offered some permenet extra hours twice a week, but will take me up to almost full time and eat into my spare time so having a think about it.. mortgage 2 87,000 due 51,686.76 at july 2013, but then:new home and remortgage ... £101065.43:eek: now 74k

got paid today :j and had a play about with figures, reckon we could live quietly for feb and almost manage to pay tax bill. Freezer is still full, have a few days holiday booked, but not heading off to the sun as we usually do at this time of year and visiting freinds instead..so that will save some cash. I have a few more outgoings to pay for now that OH business has run down because some standing orders have been transfered to personal accounts.
Newest expense is our dance classes which are £10 a week and then another tenner for a drink afterwards - but we are both loving that, so going to continue.
Ghost last night was wonderful - whole theatre sobbing by the end. Had pizza first which was great value with voucher off.. mortgage 2 87,000 due 51,686.76 at july 2013, but then:new home and remortgage ... £101065.43:eek: now 74k
