in Credit cards
Hi, hope somebody can offer me a bit of advice. Recently applied for a barclaycard initial, got accepted - got my card yesterday and even a free Mr B toy from off the adverts ( my son loves it! ) then get home today with a letter saying following a further review of your account i am sorry to advise we are unable to offer you a Barclaycard facility and have had to close the account!!!
if I had just been rejected straight away then fair enough but once i knew i had my new card then i paid off my december bills and some christmas shopping from my current account knowing that i now had a credit card to help with any emergencies and the hectic month of december.
this was just to re build my credit history and to pay in full at the end of each month but im now im in a position that im going to really struggle to the end of december when i next get paid and could truly mess up mine and my sons christmas.
im wandering if ive a right to complain? how can they send me the card and tell me i have something and then say no???
any advise would be great, thanks

I think this is quite common place (i have read other threads on it)
Have you called them to ask them why?
After ,of course, checking your CRA reports to make sure there is no reason for a decline....DEBT FREE AND PROUD

Just wanted to also say, that's pretty rubbish considering they sent the card then told you you'd been declined:(
I would be  too.....DEBT FREE AND PROUD

i did a debt relief order due to 2 redundancys, a relationship split and being a single father and couldnt make ends meet but am out of that now, have a secure ( hopefully ) job and am debt free and my credit file is all up to date and they would have checked this for the decision....now the credit card is just to rebuild and for emergencies. i dont see how they can say yay and then say oh actually we have changed our mind....ive not rang them yet as wanted to see what advice i could get first....0

silly thing is that i paid most of januarys bills in advance as january is a tough month but now im going to be short until decembers pay....i wouldnt have done that if id have been rejected in the first place and wouldnt be in this predicament i am in now!!!!!0

Not much you can do....you could complain but that would be a waste of your time....they've made further checks and considered you were not meeting their criteria, unfortunately it is typical with Barclaycard to issue a card then cancel it almost straight away, you're not the first one & you won't be the last...0

This is common practice with Barclaycard. I think if enough people complain and escalate, then it might spark some interest with the regulators. It looks like a break down in their system/controls.
At least you got Mr B!0 -
Thanks everyone...yea i thought as much....i wont get anywhere, if they dont want to give me credit its their decision, just so annoying saying yes and me planning things and then having it taken away!!!! yea at least i got Mr B, they aint having him back!!!!!0

It may be you were not completely honest with them in the first place hence the reason for them changing their mind.0 -
i was 110% honest, i have nothing to hide. if i hadnt have been honest I wouldnt have bothered with coming on here to ask for advice, thanks for your comment tho.......CRISPIANNE3 wrote: »It may be you were not completely honest with them in the first place hence the reason for them changing their mind.0 -
Even if you hadn't been honest they should check all this stuff before wasting time and money on sending out a card and approved application.
You'd have thought such a big company would understand the critical path in applications.Thinking critically since 1996....0
