universal jobmatch question
Comments

hi this is my first posting/reply. having read through the questions and answers, i thought i'd do some digging. so put job match referendum into the search engine and found, digitalspy.co.uk, on the second page one person wrote out a letter to dwp, highlighting data protection act and human rights, result not mandatory to sign up. hope this is helpful.0

I told them that i wasnt signing up because i had privacy issues. The adviser took a note of this and i have not received any further letters or communication about it. She said that it was not compulsary.0

The previous two occasions when I signed, I was told it was mandatory to sign up to Universal Job Match. This time I took a less 'in your face' approach, told them that I had been applying for jobs from the site but hadn't registered. They tried to get me to sign up there and then, since they now have computers with internet access for this purpose at the Jobcetnre. Eventually they told me it wasn't a legal requirement to sign up and dropped it. I have a recording of them telling me it is not a legal requirement to sign up.
Have posted more details in this thread:

Got into an argument with the advisor who said in his own words, "its not in the legislation to sign up for UJM" and also stated that I can sign up but dont have to use it, what a load of garbage. Doesnt make sense to have details stored and not use the site. He also stated that the system isnt created to catch you out, guess they are tryna reassure us. Anyway, if I get sanctioned, Ill let you know, this could mean we could well get sanctioned for not signing up.
Good luck, I hope they find in your favor. I think it would be unreasonable to sanction you not doing something there is no legal requirement to do. I commend your bravery, I am sure you are in the right.Well I am in the same boat and have been sent to the decision maker for not following a direction to sign up. When I went in this morning it was a different woman, she appeared to be senior and took over my signing.
Seems she was ready and waiting and said that there was a note on my file that I said on my last signing that I would not sign up as it is not compulsory

I said it is not and she said it is and I am directed to I said it is not compulsory and cannot be directed. I showed documentary proof of the last fortnight where I applied for at least 6 jobs a day and confirmation of a interview I had been to, also confirmation of an interview tomorrow and one on Monday.
I stated that we cannot be compelled to sign up as per DWP BB/153/12 and it is even on their union website the PCS which she said she was a member of and asked why would I be on that site, like !!!!!!?
I got the following link up on my phone:
***.pcs.org.uk/en/department_for_work_and_pensions_group/dwp-news.cfm/id/D34395B0-26B7-4E67-81B32F80CFEBB3E8
and she still disagreed, strange considering it is her union she is paying subs to and has confidence in them for any prospective needs she may have in the future but doesn't want to believe them where I am concerned.
Well lets see what happens
(Sorry cannot post links as I am new, you will have to copy them into your browser)
Good luck you too, that seems very unfair. I wonder if they made any notes on my file like that, I didn't see them do that.
Have you contacted PCS directly? I did this two days ago and they referred me to their local office for help. They are collecting information about this and it might add weight to your case.0
