As I understand it if its put in your jobseeker agreement then yeah have to use it or you will breach that agreement.
At the moment not all the jobcentre staff are even trained to use it yet.
Its very easy to use, and you just put your notes about the job search online.0 -

Dear Red
The situation is most unclear. ( not a helpful start ). Certainly there is a great deal of pressure from JCP mgt onto front line staff to give this message out to claimants. The reason is that the only measure of the success of UJM is registrations.
Advisers are being told that there is a sanction available if claimants do not register and post a CV. However it is dubious - untested legally- whether such a sanction would be disallowed - cease a JSA payment for a period of time. I think not as there are plenty of other jobsites to apply to jobs from and to post a CV upon - I believe indeed.co.uk is still posting JCP jobs
I would however advise JSA claimants to register and post a CV - in order not to cause any possible problem to JSA ( and it can be useful to apply to JCP jobs etc ) but not to allow / give permission for JCP staff to access your UJM a/c.

Indeed does not post jobs at all. It's a site that uses searches to pull adverts from other sites. We’ve had to remove your signature. Please check the Forum Rules if you’re unsure why it’s been removed and, if still unsure, email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

My advisor today told me to sign up using a new email address, not my regular one - I wonder if people have been getting lots of spam, or maybe there's just an onslaught of emails about jobs
I don't need to worry about it though, I have a job to go to soon. Only been on job seekers since end of last month, and start my new job before my next sign on date! So I've managed to avoid registering so far. It'll be useless for my line of work anyway. Jobs are never advertised on the usual job sites, there are specialist sites or contacts.0 -
There are already a couple of threads on this and if you had looked at them you would have seen that the JC staff's own union has posted clarification on their website, info from the DWP, that it is not mandatory and if you are told it is, your JC is giving you incorrect info.0

yes but the crucial bit surely is whether you agree to do it in your jobseekers agreement.0 -
Why would you agree to it when you dont have to? They cant force you to
Do you really think your average JSA claimant will be on the ball when the advisor turns the screen towards the customer and says we will put "will sign up and use the new universal job match service", customer is likely to just go "yeah, ok then".
Its not forcing it upin, but its just slipping it in, I really don't see what people have against it anyway, personally i'd rather use it and not have to visit the job centre as often. Will come the time when you will have to use it, since they will be doing away with all the paper recording of job searching or you have the choice of signing more often, at least weekly.0 -
No its not. I would advise you not to register with it though and leave your details particularly if you are signing on for JSA. If you do and you apply for a job and then decide to refuse to start the job etc ,the DWP will probably be able to sanction you as they will consider it you have refused a 'notified' vacancy. The regulations on this are unclear though, but better to be safe.Use it by all means but dont register. Already there has been a number of scam jobs on there ,intended to get your personal details for data gathering purposes.Furthermore it is none of the DWPS business what you have applied for in terms of holding that info on an IT system. Just show them each time manually when you sign on .
Your Jobcentre advisor should not be telling you it is compulsory.Mine advised me it isnt yet but it may be soon. I dont see them getting away with that though. Dont register, take it from me (an ex civil servant) ,they will use the info for all sorts of purposes and their own security is very relaxed. They have introduced it as the former website didnt take personal details when applying for jobs. This has been introduced to spy on claimants and to pressure them with the threat of sanctions.0 -

How would they know you had refused it?0
