It isn't a pre pay meter, I've lived here for over three and a half months and paid nothing.

I have searched the entire house, there isn't an electricity meter anywhere.

I don't know anyone here that I could borrow a phone from, and I am pretty sure there are no phone boxes here, I haven't seen one sine I moved here.
The only thing I could do is buy a PAYG sim card, top it up and call that way, but I am seriously counting every penny this month, so I couldn't do that until January or february.

Well if you want to get an account you need to call them by some means. You do have a meter. Just follow the supply cable upstream from your consumer unit and you will come to it. Have you looked outside for a meter box? If it's a flat, then it may be in a communal area. Unfortunately since you didn't take a opening reading, you may have to prove your date of entry to avoid paying someone else's bill.
If you can't afford a SIM top up, how are you going to pay the bill that has accumulated in the last 4 months? Have you not been putting some money aside against the eventual bill?
The problem with trying to contact them by email is that they'll want to link such a enquiry to your account number-which you don't yet have.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
  • Have a look and see if there is a alternative number for them, and call that?

You really know nobody with a phone or house phone that you can borrow?

Also, you need to be putting money aside for the day that someone comes for that cash. I'd recommend £50 a month - possibly £100 if you are using lots or have a big house/flat. Then at least you can pay what's due.
If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.

Did you include an address & contact no. in those emails?

If so have you kept them?

If you can show that you made reasonable efforts to notify your occupancy to the supplier & they fail to bill you you may be able to use it to your advantage in the event of any subsequent dispute.

Expect to have to pay for the supply used but perhaps over the same period it's accrued in rather than one hit if money is tight.

The who is my electricity supplier box in the link below may help you confirm who is supplying the property

  • The meter will be near to or next to the consumer unit or fusebox, I must admit to having real seaches sometimes in new occupiers houses as the electric meter was well hidden. If its in a communal room with other meters do the old trick of switching electric on high and looking for a meter flashing red light fast, then switch off to confirm its yours

Have you followed the cabling back from the CU as suggested? You will find the meter somewhere.
The saynoto0870 link provides a number for BG CS that does not require an 08 code.

you need to phone them e-mails will do nothing speak to a human (well almost) at the other end of the phone to sort it out switching multi times will result in a failed switch . and the say no to 0870 gets you a number you can call from your mobile ( i use it all the time if its the wrong dept get them to transfer you internally eg say you were waiting ages ect they will transfer you to the right dept)
  • On the odd occasion OP the missing electric meter turned out to be behind a removeable ceiling tile, high up in the porch

I have a mobile phone and a Internet dongle, both paid for by work.
I don't need to phone 08 numbers for work, so they are no callable from the phone.
I will have a landline when bt can come and fit the line.

I dont understand what you mean by following the cabling back to the meter. From where? The fuse box is in the front porch, there is nowhere in or around there where the meter could be and no cables.
which area of the country do you live in?
if you dont want to post that in the forum please pm me. I may be able to offer some assistance.

The meter will be upstream of the CU, between it and the supply cable coming in from the street. There must be cabling coming into the CU or you wouldn't have any power!
Post a pic please, as this is not making any sense.
Have you looked for an external meter box as already suggested?
As for BG, you've now been given a number you can dial from your mobile.
