MyHermes -Damage Compensation Policy Non-Existent

I have just used MyHermes Courier services for posting off a VCR. The item was packed exceptionally well, but the item was smashed to bits on arrival. Checking out the company there are many similar complaints of damaging of goods when in transit.

Checking the procedure for a compensation claim, electrical goods are not covered for any compensation claims. MyHermes have a list of items that you cannot claim for if it is damaged in transit, this list is extensive and covers most normal things.

It is pointless adding the extra compensation fee because you will probably find out that you are not covered in the event of any damage. I will never use this company again and I strongly advise you to shop around for a courier that does offer a cover in the event of any damage.

  • Thank you for the heads up. I 'probably' wouldn't have considered using them before now, but after reading that, I definately won't now.
Good luck in your clearly crappy situation.

Unbelievably there are similar complaints to mine on the MyHermes own website reviews page. I also came across a video on youtube where someone filmed a MYHermes delivery, the driver was throwing packages and parcels from the van on to the road.

This is what probably happened to my parcel!
  • We used Parcels2Go who instructed Hermes and citylink and both were pants as the parcels were well packaged and were not light ie Monitor Audio's floor standing speakers and a centre speaker when they got delivered one of the floor standers was smashed to bits and the centre speaker suffered severe damage thankfully we opted to take the insurance out after 2 weeks and alot of hassle they paid out, would we use these people again never ever in a month of Sundays.

You were very lucky to get compensation. Hermes are adamant that they will no pay out for any type of electrical goods damage, which if you think about it is probably the majority of most goods contents.

Because bigbulldog paid Parcels2Go, they are bound by Parcels2Go's list of exclusions, not MyHermes. There may be a difference between the two lists.

No just people that are too tight to move on and are looking for something for nothing. My seller expected manuals aerial leads etc. I'm even beginning to think he damaged it when he decided he didn't want it.

99% Chance MyHermes caused the damage .. they are famous for it!
  • I will only ever use Myhermes for small items such as toiletries and teddys sold on eBay. I once sent a £150 archery bow via them as sold it on eBay, took out the insurance well packaged. A couple of days after the item was meant to of been delivered had an e-mail from the buyer asking where the item was. checking the tracking it said it had been delivered. After A LOT of correspondence to myhermes the delivery driver had gone to the address and spoke to the buyer and said he didn't remember delivering to her address. Then myhermes sent the signature which the buyer said wasn't hers.

Finally they said that the driver had told them that he had gone to the house however the person was swiping snow from the drive way (it was in Jan) so had asked the driver to sign for the parcel and leave it in the front door. We only got back what the seller paid so the £150 not the cost of posting and other fees. Not happy and very fishy!!!!
Thanks to money saving tips and debt repayments/becoming debt free I have been able to work and travel for the last 4 years visiting 12 countries and working within 3 of them. Currently living and working in Canada
