Hope the rainbow cake goes well! I like the look of them, but can't be bothered to make one. Feel the same way about piping icing on cupcakes: not worth the hassle compared to using a palette knife.
Sounds like you've been doing well finding lots of frugal tricks. I tend to do all right with pennies, then go crazy buying ebooks...Rainy day fund — 210/1000 Emergency fund — 1019/1500

I'm not sure I can be bothered either, but a couple of months ago, I set myself a challenge to learn to bake. I'm too lazy to bake for the sake of it, but we have a family party to go to, which is a good reason.
I don't buy many e-books, but you've inspired me to visit the kindle store!!!0 -
a quick overview of Friday
Spends - DS school had an event today, which I'd budgeted for. I got a £2 coin in change, so that's gone into the holiday fund.
Household - decluttering session, including a bottle of body moisturiser which seemed to be cluttering up the place, an old battery powered toothbrush of DDs, a broken Turkey baster (which the children used as a bath toy) and a lots of old papers.
Tomorrow we have planned a trip to a zoo. I bought the tickets at the end of summer, but the weather had turned, so we put off the trip until the spring. The tickets expire soon so we are going tomorrow. We are going to take a picnic, but don't have much suitable food. I'm determined to use what we have, so I'll have to see what I can knock up.0 -
I really admire how you still do so much with your kids because youre so sensible about it. And I love the regular little declutters. Thats much better for keeping on top of things. As long as you buy it from the supermarket before you get the zoo you'll do fine xxxLoan 1 £5200/£8000
Loan 2 £300/£5800

a story of making-do
We had a lovely trip at the zoo. I made a decent picnic of sandwiches, chicken nuggets and squash. We also had some ice creams and let the children do a £1 activity each, so ,,only spent £5 in extras, which is pretty good.
kitten whilst our children were young, we got away with not doing too much, but they get restless when they are stuck at home, so we have to get them out. Luckily, we live in greater London, so there is loads for us to do, but I have also found some of my own places to go. Our next trip is to see the new Angry Birds film.0 -
Trip to the zoo sounds good and well done on taking a picnic and spending so little.0

Yesterday, I popped to the Grocers to get some fruit and veg and was given £4 in £2 coins - so that's gone into the holiday fund (we now have enough in the holiday fund, so anything extra will go towards next years holiday).0

Nothing much to report. I get paid next week and I've had a pretty good month, financially, so I'm pleased.
Our washing machine is playing up and I'm really annoyed, as we only bought it in January. The company are now sending around a third engineer and if they confirm the problem, they will replace it, but the fault only happens intermittently.
Also, my car is making a funny noise, which only started after some work was done on it. Again, the noise is intermittent. the garage is going to replace the part, as they can't find anything wrong.
The only good thing is that we won't have to pay out for either the car or washing machine, but it is inconvenient.0 -
Hi Chanie, just sat and read your diary from start to finish. Will subscribe. I found it really inspiring, I too am a sucker for Home Bargains, and Card Factory! I love stocking up on stuff.
