Google Chrome loses my favourites

I fairly recently started using the Google Chrome browser. Yesterday I had no problem with it but today it seems to have deleted all my favourites. Is this common ?

No. It's not common. What happens if you go to the menu on the extreme right and select Bookmarks then Bookmark Manager?
If they are lost and you recently imported them from another browser you can always repeat the exercise

Which is a very good reason for always having a second browser installed with your Bookmarks/Favourites imported.

I have all my Chrome instances synced to my Gmail account. So it doesn't matter which browser I use (work laptop, home laptop, Ipod) they all have the same favourites.

Me too,as you need a gmail account for android phones to access the play store it makes sense to sync with your web browser...and then all your settings and bookmarks are available to you on any computer, anywhere
