Hi. Not sure if this is the correct place to post but here goes...
I had some money paid into my bank today, i checked online and checked this morning. I went to a cash machine and tried to get a printed balance...but got a ...message saying cannot be performed, try later. So u tried 3 other machines and also tried to withdraw the money but same message. So...i go to a shop and buy something using chip and pin machine, this worked. I then used another cash machine and it tells me my availible balance, but hasnt taken of what ive spent in the shop? This usualy comes of straight away. Im confused!

Hi Lauren,
Probably the best advice is to contact Co-Op to check - but it sounds to me like they might have been having problems with their computer system today, and not anything that you've done "wrong". The software may have been sending data to the chip and pin parts of their network but not the cash machines.
Still best to give them a call if you're worried. Hope this helps!

Co-Operative have been experiencing problems today. Which is probably why your debit card hasn't been working. If your worried about it then speak to co-op customer serviced.Time is a path from the past to the future and back again. The present is the crossroads of both. :cool:0 -

Update on this...this morning i check balance and is the same, knowing i had spent the money in the shop. I call coop telephone service and got the same available balance and also last debits , this shop didnt show up. I then try to withdraw the money knowing i had spent it, and it let me. I have no overdraft . So im major confused, i bought 100 quid worth of stuff and paid by card and it hasnt gone out my bank, the account is now empty by a couple of pound. Whats gonna happen, i got a recipt saying transaction completed and also bank mini statements saying the money was still in there ( till u drew it out ) will i get a letter from bank/store, cause ive got these goods for nothing it seems???0

I understand it can take a few days to go out but the cash machine dont let you draw it out if you've already spent it, with no overdraft.0

The retailer has, I believe, up to 6 months to debit your card of the amount. If you have an "offline" debit card, it would also authorise the payment without necessarily explicitly checking if you had the money, they trust you to know.
So, I'm afraid I think you may end up with an unauthorised overdraft situation

Whats a offline debit card? So if they try to take it and i dont have a overdraft it will still go out? Or il get a letter?? Think i'll just call bank tomo . thanks for replies.0 -

If it was a PIN trans then it will debit and take you over.
Offline means the retailer does not have to get authorisation from your card provider.
All retailers have floor limits under which they wont get authotisation from your bank.
Ever wonder why when only spending a few £ at a supermarket is quicker than £100...Never ASSUME anything its makes a>>> A55 of U & ME <<<0 -

You should probably put the money back in before you get charged.
I'm not sure telling them that you took 100 quid out knowing another debit was due to come out would be a valid excuse, albeit they shouldn't have let you.0
