second hand iphone 4 bought on ebay locked to orange, can i unlock it?

I had a quick search on the forum but everyone so far seems to have originally been an orange customer who have been able to contact orange to request this, what if you are not or never were an orange customer and now you would like to unlock an iphone 4?

have approached 2 different high street local unlockers who both said they were unable to do this due to the orange server being down and to try again in a few weeks! is this info correct?

any help would be appreciated thanks

If the original oner cannot help, just buy a Pre-pay Orange SIM and use it for 12 weeks. Then request unlocking, which will cost £20. Once done, the phone will be officially unlocked and free of any restrictions.
