I work in the HR department of a Global company and we pay a referencing company to complete checks like this. We DO care as it shows integrity. If this was found out on one of our applications, it would be flagged to us as an amber alert. If there wasn't a satisfactory explanation - the offer of employment could be withdrawn (offers are always subject to referencing)
