Job Offer - Background Check - A Levels?

Hello,

I was successful in securing a job offer for a really great job which is a dream job for me. I received all the paperwork and will be re-locating and starting on monday!

i've filled in all the mounds of paperwork they have asked for and send off scans of all the usual documents, passports, certifications, GCSE, A Levels. You name it!

I've sent it all off today and was just doing a couple of checks and realised on my CV it is stated that i got slighly higher scores in 2 of my A Level Results than is actually reflected on the official documents which I sent off which show my results.

Now im worried that they will cross reference my qualifications and realise the difference and question my integrity as an employee?

I filled out all the paperwork they requested with my correct exam results and send out certifications with proof of these results... however my actual CV which was submitted to them over a month ago will have 2 of my A Level results at 1 level higher. (My other A Levels, GCSE's and Qualifications are all correct and I have sent off copies of my certificates to proove this)

Do you think this is likely to cause an issue and the job offer be retracted?

The job I applied for is an experienced hire and isn't a junior position and my suitability for the role wouldn't have much bearing on my A Level results anyway... but it's more the honesty and integrity side of things which could cause problems?

Some other opinions would be helpful to put my mind at rest.

The two options you have are hope they don't notice the discrepancy (or if they do that they don't care) or tell them that you made a mistake on the CV, and run the risk that they withdraw the offer. I would probably opt for the latter, but only you know the company and the degree to which your A-level results are linked to the requirements of the job.

As long as the job you have applied for doesn't require honesty, integrity or accuracy then you should be fine.

It is amazing that when these mistakes happen, in 100% of cases the grades are higher than actually achieved (nobody ever gets it wrong by putting down lower grades).

I have never seen such a "spin" way of saying you lied about your results!

So basically you lied on your CV and boosted two of your A Level grades, and now you're worried they're going to realise and take the job away from you?

I think I'd be honest. If I were your boss and I realised later on, then I'd sack you! A good company hates a liar.
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

Are these two results in disciplined related to the job? If you claimed a B rather than a C in French, but you are going to work in a lab, it should matter much, a B rather than a C in chemistry and physics might be more problematic.

You might just have to start with a gold star less and work on the Mcflurry range a bit longer.
    Be happy...;)

Yep, what they said, I have 7 'O' Levels, can't find the certificates though, no-one has asked to see them (but I am 44 yo). Are the grades relevant to the job, or are they 'I have 3 (insert number here) A levels?

    Sam

Oh my word, I'm not feeling the love tonight.

I don't think for a minute that any underpaid, overworked HR Assistant will take the trouble to compare what it says on your CV to the certificates you present. If any offer of employment is removed because of a minor mistake on 2 A levels then you must be the same person who's about to forfeit a £64m lottery win tomorrow.

If your conscience gets the better of you then tell the employer, I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't care

    DON'T PANIC

If they are really stringent they could be contacting the awarding bodies to verify the grades, well thats what I have been told before, not sure how it works though with the DPA1998. Would need someone who works in HR to confirm.

Whether they check or not I don't know, I went to an interveiw a few months ago and was asked to take all that sort of thing to the interveiw, come to think of it they never checked them, but then I never got offered the job or heard back.

Any smart employer, if they noticed but did not care would just keep the records, should at anytime in the future they needed to sack you they would have a reason.
