Does Virgin ever offer free installation? Telephoned them today to ask about the basic package & they are after £49 just for installation.
Also, does anyone know where I can find a list of freeview channels using sky? I have a sky dish from a long time ago when I subscribed with them. However, haven't looked for any other freeview channels for quite some time. So a list would be a great starting point as opposed to trawling through the 100s of channels.

You don't get freeview from satellite, you get freesat.
Also Sky channels quality is far better than Virgin.
The channels are broadcast from satellites to earth, with freesat or Sky you get them as they are broadcast, with Virgin you get them re-broadcast down a copper wire so there is some loss of quality in the signal.

the devil made me do it - retiredin2011 is wrong.
You get FreeSat on a FreeSat branded box, and info is available on that link.
If you have a Sky box, with an old subscriber card in it, you get freesatfromsky - there's a list of channels here.

If you take the card out, you will lose some of the channels. You can't record, even with a Sky+ box.0 -

I am using my old sky box with a relatively new subscriber card. Just don't subscribe to any package.0 -
OK - the link I provided will show you the free channels on Sky - you're basically using freesatfromsky.0
