Help - just smashed my iron!

Have no idea if this is the right board to put this (suspect not) but thought Mum's may be the best to advise.

I've just managed to smash my iron (stored at height & fell onto kitchen floor, which is tiled) - really :mad: at myself.

Funds tight being this time of year and looking for recommendations of a decent but not too expensive iron.

Any suggestions? TIA:)

Nightmare, irons come into our house and hardly last any length of time at all. We've been married 16 years and have probably had at least 16 so you think I might be able to give you a recommendation but I can't! I have a Philips one at the moment which irons great but doesn't have an auto switch off (we can be a bit forgetful) it was about £30 in Sainsbury's (half price at the time) I find irons just not the same as ones I had about 10 years ago, maybe it's an Eco thing?? I hate ironing and only do what's required for the next day Good luck!

Ive had my cordless one for about 15 years now.

It's been bounced off the floor a couple of times but still works perfectly.

I did exactly the same thing a few months ago!

As I was skint after paying car tax and MOT I bought a really cheap iron from ASDA (think around £4). It's been the best iron I've had and makes me kick myself ... I've spent £40+ on better makes that have lasted a year and a day (or always just after the 12 month warranty runs out!:rotfl:)

Cheaper than smashing the tiled floor!

Can't remember the last time I ironed, but saying that I don't need crisp cotton shirts for work.

I took a friends advice, dry things on a hanger, or tumble dry until 90% dry, and then stick on a hanger for the last 10%. The shower rail by a bath is ideal for getting rid of creases, so hang them over that.

Can't offer much advice on buying a new iron, but in the meantime if you have straighteners you can use those to take out creases!

I'm a dancer, and my troupe always have a pair on hand at performances to take out wrinkles in costumes that have been crammed into suitcases and carted all over the place.

I bought a cheap iron from woolworths as a student....lasted a good while then started spraying out white powder apparently common with cheaper irons but as a short term fix supermarkets should have value irons. I now have a £20 odd ('half price') from tesco, going strong!

Try to find somewhere lower down to store the next one. Annoying landing on the floor, but what if it had been on your foot, or even your head? :eek:
