Ex partner has removed my surname from my sons school record

Hi,new to this posting thread,I am looking for some advice on what my legal standing is??
my son is 4,and have recently found out my ex has removed my surname from my sons school register.
He has a double barrelled surname and mine has been dropped, can she legally do this and have i any recourse??
i pay csa and have access to my son overnight. It really worries me that over time he`ll believe his surname is the one he see`s at school

What name was registered on the birth certificate, and are you named as the father on there. If you have both on there, than i would have expected that the name given on the birth certificate would have been the offical name that you son should be using for all offical things, eg school records.

What sometimes happens is that children get called different things. So the register may say Benjamin but they are called Ben. It may be that your ex has asked for your name to be dropped (Either asked the school or your child) and therefore on books etc, only one surname remains. Can you not ring the school and ask them?

As you both have parental responsibility, neither of you can change the child's name without the other's permission.

    The school should know better.

Do you have regular contact with the school? Do they send you copies of everything that gets sent home?

Speak to the school and make sure they know you have not given permission for the name change.

It would be worth getting in touch with one of the fathers' support groups so you know your rights.

If son is 4 who is to say that Mum just registered with out other name from the start. The school hasn't got time to check every name of every child. If the name was full at the start and has now changed that is a different matter.

Like I say, ring the school and see what the story is. They might be completely unaware that another name even exsists.

If you haven't got one already, buy a copy of his birth certificate - https://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/default.asp

my son is a double barrel, yet the CSA only know his moms sirname and middle name, my surname is missed off... i sent them a copy of his birth cert, and said that "does this mean she failed to provide acurate information, as his name is XXXX not XXXX..." the csa did nothing, not even a response... despite the fact that they could fine her up to £1000 for not giving acurate info...

lol not a lot we as NRP can do though, because we "dont care" and "dont have responsibility"...

as Mojisola said, you both have to agree to a name change... along with anybody else that could possibly have PR...

i found out that my ex gave her parents (sons GP's) PR (as i dont have PR until court they will become NOK should anything happen to her...

write to the school. and put them straight, and insist on his full name being used...

his name is his identity... and nobody has the right to remove that from their child. no matter what...

And, as many PWC seem to forget, he has two parents and two sets of relatives. The PWC can't rewrite history.
