Soft toys get my goat the most - my two are only 3 and 1 but they've got hundreds. Family members are aware of this yet still give them more as presents. Zero eductionational value and apart from the two in DS's cot and the four in bed with DD, they never get looked at.

    Jxx

My DD just donated a couple of bin liners of cuddly toys to the charity shop, she still has the faves in her room and another bagfull in the loft ;)

I try and do a dinosaur box, an animal box, car box etc., but there are probably about 120 toy cars and same of tiny dinosaurs, surely that's too many!?
I kept trying to keep the toys to a certain box but DH pointed out that the followindg day they got muddled again so I might as well stop wasting my time.

We cut back a few years ago with what we bought the children at Christmas because of the amount of stuff they received from other people.
I am culling lots of soft toys this weekend, and putting them in a charity bag, when DD is out.;)
  • we were redecorating my DD bedroom as a surprise extra christmas present (seriously... dad bought a new bed, my mum bought the covers and curtains, my sister bought the lampshade and other bits and the rest was provided by us... paint, stickarounds, new furniture etc, she still got tons of "real" presents but she loves her bratz bedroom more than any of them!)

and..... i told her that we needed to clear out a lot of her old toys that she didnt play with anymore and sell them at a car boot sale and she could have the money, she picked out a surprising amount of stuff and loved the fact that children with no toys could have them but she would get some real pocket money out of it.
we sold nearly all of her old rubbish and with the money she bought 1 toy,
    it seems a fair swop!

also, her new bed has a load of storage underneath it, there are lots of toys under there that she has forgotten all about, im going to give it another month or so then get rid of them, they have been under there since christmas and she hasnt asked for a single bit of it!
clear some more room just in time for her birthday in june.....

Can't add anything more - rotate the toys.

We used to really good, and rotate the toys every three months or so, however, when we moved house, everything came out fo the loft, and they played with it, and then of course there were delays and delays and finally we moved, and way and behold the old house owners had left tonnes of toys, and we spent ages taking all that to the tip that we never got to put their excess toys into the loft, and they are still there, scattered across the floor (although I did do a tidy up on Wed and removed one whole box (wow) into the loft, and got rid of one bin bag of broken / rubbish toys.

Every Chirstmas and Birthday I swear I will not buy messy / lots of pieces toys, but we get don't seem to learn.

(Goes up to have another gander at toys to see what can be moved to the loft)

My problem is my parents, Mum buys them so much tat it has actually reduced me to tears on occasion! I try and weed out bits I think won't be missed but as quick as I'm selling/donating/binning things there's more coming in and don't even get me started on pictures and artwork!!! Can't decide if I need a bigger house or should just ebay the kids - what d'ya think? :D

    I've been Money Tipped!
Try giving the cuddly toys back to the giver as presents. if you've told them not to buy, it's a very practical way to stop receiving them.

They soon stop giving them when they know they're getting them back.

Hubby doesn't agree with me and says I shouldn't get rid of anything but I disagree, but how do you work out which ones to keep?

I bet if you get rid of a load and don't tell your husband, he'll never even notice.........

I get the same problem with mil and fil. My dad always asks what to get the kids and sticks to that, but mil and fil buy loads and loads of little bits and pieces which, with few exceptions, never get looked at. My tactic now is to get mil to keep most of it at her house for DD to play with when she has her after school.

And it looks like we made it once again
Yes it looks like we made it to the end
