Please dont FORGET as i posted in another thread about rhubarb , keep your dogs away from it as it is poisonous to them !

The leaves are poisonous to us too   They contain oxalic acid.

Interestingly, hens like to peck at the leaves - it makes them retch which dislodges parasites from their insides.

We've had the first picking - delicious ;) I've covered my crowns with horse manure. Will post a pic later.

Using rhubarb leaves as an insecticide is actually illegal I believe, so please do be very careful. I don't think it's suitable for use on edible crops as it is poisonous but have heard it is successful on roses.

I'm not an expert, not trying to be a pain but please research this properly before attempting it.

It's not doing it that's illegal, it's advising the use of things that haven't been through testing for that purpose that's illegal.

I'm pretty sure it's the use of too.

'Under UK and EC law it is illegal to use any preparation as a garden spray, or treatment, that is not approved for such use.' That's the disclaimer on organicgarden.org.uk website. There's also information on an rhs.org pdf saying that it is the use of that is outside the law.

Where did you read that it's just the advising of?

That's interesting! I heard it on Gardeners' Question Time, but it's possible that I misunderstood :o

I think I saw a programme on tv with those forcing sheds, and them collecting by candlelight. It must be an experience.
