Your pictures are great. I divided my huge rhubarb last year and it is taking a while to re-establish - I think due to the drought last year so no picking for me this year:(

Aha - we inherited two crowns when we bought this house in September. I've not done anything with them and they're sprouting away fine - some real chunky stalks already so we might pick some before long. No pictures at present but they're doing a fair attempt at hiding the new daleks (compost bins) that I've sited behind them.

One question for those in the know - does harvesting promote further growth - in other words the more you take the more it produces or is there a sort of optimum to avoid weakening the plant?

Our rhubarb is very small and slow.... going to take a wee while before it becomes anything significant....

Mine's on its 3rd year and doing great much to my neighbour's chagrin. Hers hasn't picked up since she dug it up to give me a piece. Oops.

Made our first crumble last week, lovely. :)

I'll have to take a pic over the weekend.

I'm getting a bit confused about these dog warnings.....the vast majority of dogs will not try and eat rhubarb....unless you've put it in a crumble and added custard ;)

    also poisonous to dogs are,

Oats...thats stuffed the crumble as well
    Daffodils
    ivy
    Foxglove
    Hyacinth
    hydrangea
    lilly of the vally
    poinsettia
    tulip

chocolate.....how many of you knew that your little treat was killing Fido?

and hundreds of other things, just plant acccording to the safety needs of your household.

also the more you pick the more you get but not when the crowns are young though so be careful if yours are thin.

I reckon that mine may be ready next weekend, or shall I leave it a week and spoil myself over the holiday ?
This bit about rhubarb being poisonous to dogs, is this in its raw state or cooked or both ? My dog has had some in the past when I have had a guest who couldn't quite finish off their helping. Her lifestyle has changed considerably recently after I heard an item on local radio over Easter. Another one of her favourites, pickled onions (one per month) are now off the menu.

Mine is taking over the world. We inherited a 2m row with our house last year, picks loads last year and gave it to anyone who we could send home with some and its looking like it will be even better this year. I put bins over a third of it so we have had a few forced rhubarb crumbles (yum!) but now its all growing like mad. In fact I have made a trifle with it this afternoon for tea because I am trying to think of new things to make with it. Any ideas?
