O/s daily thread tues 4th dec

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

    Morning :hello:

Thanks for all the congrats and well dones  I'm still floating on air at the moment :D

We were rescued by lorry drivers once, the car cut out in the pouring rain while we were overtaking a lorry on the M5. They surrounded us – one went in the outside lane, that's not allowed is it? - and slowly slowed down while we made our way over to the hard shoulder. As they picked up speed again, I jumped out and did a thumbs up with both hands, didn't think they'd see me but a couple did and gave a long blast on their horns :D

I'm trying to find the best way to pretend to use up the extra money we now have, without actually spending it. Mr tru will fritter it away, then wonder where it's gone, lol. I'm not one for hiding it away from him in another account. I've overhauled the budget then added a bit more to allow for any increase in the bills, mortgage rate was set for the year at the end of november. I've also decided to give us both pocket money – to be spent on whatever we like without having to justify it to each other. Bet he stops making lunch for work and spends his on junk food :D

After a few failed attempts, I can now crochet a round shape :D

    Morning everyone

Hugs to those that need/want them that are having a hard/sad time at the moment x

Now getting light, damp underfoot and not so chilly here this morning. DH up and off to work early but not stupid early.

Dinner last night was pork chops, mash, brussels, carrots, green beans and gravy, dessert from the tins. Tonight we will be having LO's from Sunday's roast - lamb cooked in gravy in the oven, mash, carrots, peas, LO cauli/brocc cheese and yorkshires.

Yesterday, work as expected was a complete manic Monday - IT dept at work had been doing updates over the weekend, and, as usual, completely trashed parts of the system - that's not so bad if you're not customer facing but we are and the 1st of the month is our busiest time - parts of the system were still not working last night when we finished - hoping for a better day today!

Have done something to my lower back, I bought a new sack of potatoes on Friday - guy at the farmshop put them in my car for me, but I carried them in from the car to the house - our car parking and garage is at the end of the garden so it's a little way but I felt like I was going to drop them so hitched them up and after I'd got into the house my back was really aching - so won't be doing that again - DH and menfolk have told me off for doing it on my own!! So been having nice hot baths and using some excellent gel that's really helping - not so bad this morning so hoping I'm on the right track.

Have a great day everyone, stay safe and well x

  • Good morning everyone :)

Torrential rain and windy this morning and a horrible drive to work.

Started to sort out DD and GDD Christmas presents last night but fell asleep watching TV so I really must do it tonight. I refuse to turn the heating on in the evening so have a couple of throws on the sofa to get snuggled under, only problem is I fall asleep as soon as get covered up!

Last night's curry was delicious and am really glad I made more. We now have a new way of making a meal with half a portion of curry, some precooked lentils and rice. It makes a lovely one pan pilaff type of thing so am going to try freezing that too. Today is Venetian style liver for dinner and HM soup for lunch.

GDD has announced she wants a skiing type head band as well as a cowl but that should be a doddle to knit and I still have loads of bits of wool.

Must dash as usual, so will leave with usual well wishes to all sick people and pets and hugs for those who need or just want them. Stay warm and safe.

Have a super day everyone :)

Morning all, spent the weekend helping OH's daughter to move into her new house. It was filthy, so most of the time was spent cleaning. She's moving from rented so hasn't got to do it all in one day thank goodness.
Yesterday had meeting about son's carers, food shopping, gym and was supposed to be present wrapping, but couldn't summon the energy so watched TV instead!
Today I am finishing the Xmas shopping, going to the library and the doctor, some paperwork for my son, have coffee with a friend and THEN wrap some presents.
Still waiting to here about 2 more bits of work so trying to be extra frugal in case they don't come through.
Hope all poorlies feel better (pets included) and everyone having a tough time gets a break.

    Morning all,
up early again, woke with a stiff neck. Beautiful pink and blue skies here so it's looking like it's going to be a nice day.

I want to have a mooch in Mr T's, Sainsbug and Morries as I'm doing a hamper for DGD1 to take back to Uni after the hols. I spent the evening listing everything they have on offer that she would like so will save quite a bit. Last year I used a wicker basket but it wasn't big enough so thanks to Ama*on I have covered/decorated a huge box.
Spag Bol for dinner tonight, hm soup out of the freezer for DH to have for lunch. More wrapping to do later.

LOUBY well done on your DS's baking.
ALLY, Hope you'll soon feel better,It's a stressful time of year.
BUTTERFLY, I had carpal tunnel and after I had both wrists opped on I've never had any problem. Maybe your Dr. could help.
TOPSY, Good vibes on the way. Good Luck.
NMLC, Make sure you rest, back pain is awful.
    TRU, debt free, well done.
Hugs to all poorlies. Have a good day.

    Morning all,
After a few failed attempts, I can now crochet a round shape :D

Well done. I can do lots of circles, i can even do corners too but someone has to start me off.:D

I phoned Auntie last night i am going to see her this afternoon. Every bit of me is telling me not to go, that i'll get dragged into looking after her. She will depend on me and then she will treat me like a dogsbody like my Mom did. Then i'm expecting the more i do, the less her son will do.....Ive been there and wore the tee shirt over and over again with Mom.

The thing with Auntie is, the more you do for her the more she will insist on paying and that will give her more license to moan. She moans enough about the carers she has going in and she has to pay for.

I didnt sleep well last night. I ran out of two of my tablets on Sunday so i went cold turkey.:D I had horendous dreams and woke up with so many night terrors it was like living through my own private hell. My heart was pounding in my chest, it was awful.

Played with Twitter yesterday. Ive got the hang of it but it aint that much different to Facebook really. I havent added anyone, not sure my life and my opinions are important enough to foist on to the world and there aint no point in tweeting if theres no one out there to tweet to.:(

Looks like i'm going through a pessimistic phase. I need to snap out of it.

    Have a good day all.

    Morning all,

Just a quickie as have lots of last minute jobs to do.
Sorry have read the thread and taken nothing in, I am always very nervous before a big flight, I am much happier when I'm on the way:o
Thank you for all your good wishes:D
Tru well done I am seriously impressed:T this is my main aim when we return. I think I am going to start a daily diary to help us on our way.
Marie Perth is extremely expensive but staying with family and most of the socialising will be at people's houses. You usually take a plate and your own drinks so not too bad, but we will be being careful.
Well will probably be missing for a few days so hope you all stay safe and well and enjoy the build up to Christmas.
I shall post from down under when I can and shall put some pics of the wedding when I have them.
Happy Christmas, speak soon J x:santa2:
