The only information about current accounts that banks can register with the credit reference agencies relates to the overdraft element of the account, which is the credit bit. Basic accounts don't have an overdraft facility so can't be included in your credit report.

You couldn't be more wrong on this I am afraid!!!. As other posters have proved. I think the co op were the first to update cras with basic account info
    For everthing else there's mastercard.
    For clampers there's Barclaycard.

Hi, I have a recurring issue that I can't get a full bank account, with any bank. They say it's because I'm failing credit checks with Experian and I have negatives coming up.

I have no CCJs but Experian keeps saying I have. I have tried to sign up to their trial, but every time they want to send me something through the post, so I can view what has been put against me. The problem is, no letter ever comes. I have contacted Experian, but they say my account hasn't been set up.

I have never had anything that could give me a bad credit scoring as I never have had a contract phone or a credit card or anything like that. I am only 19. It seems Experian can say what they like and not let the person be able to know exactly what they have 'done wrong'.

    Anyone else had this issue?

    Meiona

If you've never had credit and it's therefore impossible to have bad credit such as defaults then the probable reason you're getting rejected is that you have no credit history apart from the CCJs.

You don't say which bank accounts you've been applying for but as previously advised in this thread, go for a basic bank account.

Yes, get your credit reports and have a look at the CCJs to see if they are in fact your's. You can raise an objection with one of the CRAs and if successful will be automatically applied on the other CRAs.

It is perfectly conceivable that there is a mix-up with someone else with the same name, or that someone abused the identity of the OP. Getting hold of the credit agency reports from the 3 major agencies is, as has already been suggested, critical for any progress towards a resolution.

I was wrong, sorry. Several banks are now sharing records of customers with basic bank accounts. I did not know that so that's my something new learned today!

The OP can't get a credit report if she hasn't got a file. Files don't just open themselves. You have to get some credit to start a credit file.

An Experian representative being wrong cant be no way, next they'll be selling scores 'no don't think they'd do that as surely Experian not being a lender and scores only generate when making applications they'd be foolish to try this stunt!!!

I'm glad you said it, not me, as I'm trying to be nice for an entire 24 hour period. It's not going well.

There is, as far as we know so far, nothing that suggests that there are no credit file records for the OP. Some fraudster might have abused the identity. The only way to find out is to ask for the credit agency reports.
