Problems with NPower and MoneySuperMarket.com

Options
I switched Gas and Electric supplier on the 16th of November through the MoneySuperMarket.com. I got a confirmation email from MSM but since then I've heard nothing.

I called MoneySuperMarket.com and got advised by a slightly stroppy lady to call NPower direct as they are having "a lot of problems with them [Npower] not writing to new customers". Not a good start. After a 14min hold I finally got through to NPower. Such a long wait time isn't something I've experienced with an energy supplier before either; perhaps I've just been lucky.

Finally got though to them to find they have my request but haven't actioned it because they needed my date of birth. Why? I don't think I've ever been asked for that information to change supplier before and they made no effort to contact me by email or post to get it from me.

Needless to say I've just told NPower to cancel the request and I'm going elsewhere. If the service is that bad before I've even become a full customer then it doesn't bode well for the future. I've politely asked them to stick it. And as for MoneySavingExpert.com - shoddy service. I know they're only making a small amount of commission but I'll never use them again - totally useless. :(

Either that or you haven't been with any of the big 6 suppliers before ;)

So how much more is it costing you to go elsewhere? :money:

Remember that :money:(this site) is also owned by MSM now ;)

    Bye :)

Fair point. No, I don't think I have. Perhaps I should stick to who I know best!

I got the following on November 2nd - never heard another thing. Haven't chased - just figured it got lost. Am about to try to switch again - without using Money Supermarket, who appear to be a total waste of time!

  • Hi jacobsdaduk and downshifted,

    Have you seen the thread
Warning: npower accept new customers without sending them a Contract
    https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/4273611
The thread has now more than 100 Posts and more than 3,600 Views.

Your unhappy experience, when you tried to switch to npower,
could be because npower are introducing a 'new system'.

I've been documenting some of the issues.
I have alleged that it is "not fit for purpose" and npower have not been able to refute this (or send me my Contract).
More evidence, in that thread, would be welcome.
Others, sadly, have also 'received nothing', experienced delays etc.

So, I'm speculating that there is no issue at MoneySuperMarket.com
(except that they are still accepting 'attempts to switch to npower').
However, there are issues at npower.

    What do you think?

  • I've not idea and to be quite honest I'm not too bothered - there are plenty other suppliers out there so I've just chosen another.

I switched using energyhelpline and I recieved nothing from npower but my switch has gone ahead. The only reason I know this is because I was already a npower customer and logged into my account the other day and it does now state the online Jan 2014 tariff.
The date of birth is a security question if you need to ring up I think
