My husband works for the bed company you're talking about, and he had to work all the same bank holidays, and he has to work every Sunday and his payment date was never changed to the 21st, do you by any chance not work in the stores but actually drive for the company? I'm not sure that the 21st was ever a fully official date given by the company, maybe just a rumour?0

I wouldn't necessarily borrow off family or pawn stuff. Pawn shop doesn't exactly bring less worry. And family may be equally hard up this time of year.
But I would do a boot sale and/or Ebay. Tons of free listings days on Ebay.
I agree - I suggested them in the order I would prefer to try them if were it me
I thought about ebay, but if you haven't done it before I think paypal holds your money for a number of weeks, so probably wouldn't get it released in time.Mortgage when started: £330,995

Stop with the emotional crap. Christmas hasn't been brought forward and with you working for a company that is on shaky ground, you should have started your Christmas shopping months ago. It is not the companies fault you are ill prepared.0 -

There is no evidence that the company is on shaky ground at all. There is no evidence that the company are paying people late. The OP is complaining that they are not being paid early, as the OP seems to think they were promised.0 -

Unless it's in writing or something how can OP have a complaint?
In most companies and it's been said to death here etc there is nothing OP could do to enforce early payment, despite working weekends etc.0 -

Not having a complaint has never, in my experience, stopped people from complaining0 -

We work for a well known bed retailer who has been having finicial difficulties staying afloat.
We were advised a month ago we would be paid on 21st Dec and asked to work Sundays etc to help out the company, ( 7 day weeks) , so everyone has done this on the promise we would get paid 21st. With the Sundays completed we now been told we not being paid till Dec 28th !!!! How are we going to buy xmas food, xmas presents, how do you tell your child Santa didnt come this year because you got no moneyThere is no evidence that the company is on shaky ground at all. You're right, there is no evidence... however, this is the OP's perception so the advice from others about starting to get a war chest together - just in case - is probably sound advice.
As to the payday not being brought forward, OP is there a chance that a local manager dangled that carrot to get everyone to work the extra days? Perhaps the company had already made the decision but it had not been communicated properly.
In reality, this has done you a favour although it might not seem like it... the company is right, getting paid early leaves a longer period 'til next payday... they are helping you to budget really.
You can still have fun... decorations, games etc just not big pressies. How about having a New Year party with pressies instead? That way, the kids get two days of excitement.:hello:0 -

Really? The OP said....gander2013 wrote: »We work for a well known bed retailer who has been having finicial difficulties staying afloat.
Sounds pretty shaky to me.0 -

It may be the OP's perception, and that perception may be correct too - but what people think is not evidence. The point was that people were linking the perception of the OP with the reason for not being paid early and assuming that they would not get paid at all, when the fact is that being paid early isn't a right. There is no reason to assume that the employer cannot cover their bills because they are paying people as normal. The OP possibly has enough to worry about without making assumptions into speculations!
The employer has not prevented them from having a Christmas. As others have pointed out, depending on early payment of wages for everything needed for Christmas was not wise, but people do it... Whether or not the company is shaky, and whether or not the perception is correct, having nothing at all behind one for an emergency or for things like Christmas isn't a good position to be in.0
