You don't get free prescriptions while on maternity!!
Pretty sure you get it for the first year after childbirth

FYI: The 'rich' family thing... don't forget their family is about to take a 'tax hit' when the child benefits stop - they'll loose 2 1/5k of 'after tax' money - i.e. to her husband, that's an equivilent of a £4k paycut

Just curious, How is it 2.5k? Child benefit for 2 children is £ 132ish every 4 weeks.

Im afraid i cant see the problem here.

You earn 79k between you and you want state help? Granted childcare costs a fortune but maybe try looking at your existing outgoings and reduce anything unnecessary. How old is your toddler? Can you not find a cheaper alternative than nursery? Have you got family who can help?

The fact you mention "benefits for rich family" really does take the pee just a little, why did you choose to put this title? To wind people up perhaps? I didnt think a family so "rich" should be entitled to help so why do you?

There are many people im sure who have less than you AND a sick child who have no choice but to cope without state help.

Sorry for the lack of sympathy but as a single income family who NEEDS the help we get, id love your 79k......................
  • oh, and if you were earning 79k as a family, you'd also have the associated outgoings of a family earning that... (e.g. stupid south-east mortgage)

Although in another thread, the OP says she's paying 1/2 the bills.. that's a bit crazy IMO and I think that she doesn't quite have access to the 'family' money. She might be paying out for all the hospital trips ect from her salary, whilst her OH doesn't contribute..so in effect she may not have much disposable money.

Things aren't always as simple as they seem

You might find that a childminder is cheaper than a nursery and might also be more flexible on the hours of childcare you need as well. Or have you considered employing a nanny or au-pair?

How old is your toddler? In the term after they turn three they will be eligible for the free 15 hours Early Years funding.

They've paid in far more than most do so why shouldn't they expect something back?
