where is everyone getting their Christmas turkeys from?

We don't like turkey breast and as there's just us two and my veggie mother I've been looking for organic turkey drumsticks to roast and slice to have as sliced turkey and for stock. Also some diced turkey for the Christmassy turkey leftover dishes like curry.
Alas not found anything organic smaller than crowns yet..0 -
I went to Tesco today for a fresh, free range Bronze turkey. Ones on the shelf come with giblets for £6.50 a kilo. On the meat counter they had exactly the same birds but with a clear wrapper, and no giblets for £4 a kilo. Yes, for Bronze free-range turkeys. I got a 5 kilo one for £20, and managed to persuade the checkout assistant to accept my '£5 off a whole turkey, excludes meat counter' voucher, and a £4.50 off at Sainsburys till spit too.
Cheapest turkey ever. I went into M & S later, and their equivalent birds with giblets for the same weight as my £20 one were £49.50.....0 -

We are just having a whole chicken this year. I know some may think that is cheap but my son loves chicken and as my mum is a vegetarian I will be the only other person eating chicken also. So similar to you Edwardia with the number of people, if I was catering for say 6 guests I would probably have splashed out on a turkey or goose etc.'Look after the pennies and the pounds will look after themselves'0 -
Fresh Turkey Crown for us from Smithfiled meat market london, £3.70 a kilo.
you have to get there early around 5 am but we go all the time.0 -

We usually get ours from M&S but have not been impressed with them over the last 4 years so last year we got one from our local butcher at nearly 8 quid a kilo! Again though it was alright but no turkey epiphany thats for sure.
This year we were going to return back to M&S but throughout they year I am sick of hearing about their food going down hil since the Morrisons chappy took over and also take it with a pinch of salt as I cannot for the life of me locate the source now but I did read a couple of months ago somewhere that M&S's turkeys this year are coming from exactly the same source as Morrisons turkeys you are just paying more for the M&S name, as said take that with a pich of salt as I cannot locate the article now anyway we have gone in the complete opposite direction and got one of Morrisons frozen turkeys from their christmas dinner for under £20 quid offer, I picked one up yesterday the last one in the freezer for £9, just under 4kg and plenty for us.
I got some of the mince pies from the offer as well me and my better half had one last night and they were delicious I was very impressed, they also have a chocolate log in store that has been reduced from £3.50 to £2 we had 1 during the week I got another yesterday they are delicious to strangely enough the week before I got a chocolate log from M&S paid a fiver for it and it was not a million miles away from the morrisons one it was even served up on the exact same foil cardboard, same piping the lot the only difference was the M&S one had a thin layer of chocolate over the roll before the outer piping was put on.

Debating trying the turkey/gammon combo from Iceland this year as none of us are only keen on turkey but I feel obliged to serve it
I picked up the Iceland three bird roast earlier in the week. I'm not a great lover of turkey so I'm hoping it'll be nice while still showing willing :rotfl:Make £25 a day in April £0/£750 (March £584, February £602, January £883.66)
December £361.54, November £322.28, October £288.52, September £374.30, August £223.95, July £71.45, June £251.22, May£119.33, April £236.24, March £106.74, Feb £40.99, Jan £98.54) Total for 2017 - £2,495.100 -
Seeing as I live on my own:(, I will visit Mr T and Mr M on Xmas Eve and may buy a turkey - only if it is reduced, otherwise I have some venison steaks in the freezer. I will still cook roast potatoes and stuffing. I will NOT eat sprouts!
I have a 4 year old Xmas pudding I may cook.
At least I have saved on not buying presents! :j0 -
In a strrange twist of fate my better half went to our local village hall last night for a game of "Poultry Bingo"
Anyhow she won a turkey! It is an Asda fresh one so this is now sat in the fridge waiting to be cooked and the Morrisons one will probably stay in the freezer, I wonder if it will last till easter?"You can measure a man's character by the choices he makes under pressure"Sir Winston Churchill0 -
We're having a butcher turkey, ordered a crown but it came with crown & legs seperate! 6lb turkey, 1/2lb streaky bacon, 2lb chippolatas and 2 stuffing for £33. Its the butcher a couple of towns away as the local butcher wasn't great last time we used them.0
