Pause live TV - equipment required?

Hi,
I'm looking for a cheap solution - I know I could sign up to a package or but a recording device.
However, I saw a tv advertised which mentioned 'pause TV with USB'
What I want is something very simple for an OAP so I was looking for a tv that has freeview built in that also has the pause live TV function.
Does this exist? Either with or without a USB stick?
Thank you!

pvr is more useful, especially if you don't need to buy a new tv!!

Thank you both! He probably does need a new TV - that's actually the point that started the whole conversation off. But both options worthy of thought so thanks!*** Friends are angels who lift us to our feet when our wings have trouble remembering how to fly ***

If the TV still displays OK, keep it and add a Humax PVR 9300T. Pretty cheap if you go for a manager's special on the Humax Direct site.
It will do a lot more for him than just pause (series record for example). No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
TV can still be used with very little hassle as long as it has SCART at the back. I'd really rather not be stuck with a 4:3 shaped screen these days though.0
