Can you recommend cheap but safe areas of Glasgow for renting,close to the centre?

To be honest I'd had the same thought. I know I probably only saw the rough parts when I lived up there (and eek, it is 19 years since I left), but when all you ever here is "F*ck off ya stupit wee Sassenach" on a daily basis it doesn't make you warm to the place.0 -
Everywhere has bad bits and good bits. While Glasgow does have some really bad bits, you would have no real reason to go in to them, and it also has a lot of really lovely bits (and loads of friendly people)!0

Agree with West End. Would suggest avoiding East End - Dennistoun, Haghill, etc. These areas are close-ish to the city centre, and not ALL that bad, but miles worse than the west.
Suggest you need to work out where you need to get to for work, your nearest public transport options (good rail and underground links), and use that as a start.0
