Asda Smartprice Washing Powder

have been using this since, forever (it seems).

Have never had a problem with it, cheap cheerful and does the job.

A couple of months ago when I tried to get it in my online shopping it was unavailable.

last shop I got 2 large boxes while it still 'existed'.
Problem is this new lot doesn't go through the machine - it just clumps in the powder drawer.

Has anyone else started experiencing this?? Have they change the formulation?

I'm pretty sure it's not the machine (only a few months old) but going to buy a different brand to try tomorrow just incase.

I bought some last week for the first time and had the same problem, to the degree that the rinse water was coming out of the drawer. I had to chip off the powder with a knife as it was set solid! Won't be buying again.......

same here (last nights batch), prior to that i've been able to just lift the bit out. but i used twice as much in the hope some may go into the machine.

Might take the spare box back tomorrow and ask them to part exchange it for another brand. GRR that's gonna add a good £3-4 on my shopping every month (doesn't seem like much when you put it that way but when saying it's the difference between £3.50 and £7.50 it seems huge.

Are they good at exchanging with no receipt or should I print off a copy of my last online order?

Same here, I wondered what was going on until I managed to get the drawer out and found the compartment behind clogged up with a solid mass of powder.
I will try Lidl's own brand next time.

you could always put it in the machine on top of the laundry BUT if it's clumping it may still clump, although the agitation should help break it down.

I would be firing off a swift complaint email if it were me;)

i'll take it back + complaint letter, as not much i can do with the partly used one - as I need powder ASAP.

all i seem to have done this week is complain to companies.

  • well what a farce THAT was.

Took both boxes (and the block of powder out the washing machine drawer) back to my local store this morning - with a copy of the receipt that I printed off.

got told by sales assistant, supervisor and manager that they could not do a refund as they didn't sell the item and I had to take it back to where i got it from.

I advised I could not return it to the virtual online store and to travel to any other store would be a 2h round trip with toddler and baby and cost more then the 2 items.

I advised the item was faulty and they WOULD do a refund. And if they wouldn't they could ring head office for me.

After a conversation with the chap at 'head office' and after going through the same conversation as above again...............twice. he told me he would refund by posting me a gift card.
I politly declined this and offered to bring trading standards in as refusal by a company to refund faulty goods.
I explained had I bought at a larger store, or bought online and changed my mind I would have no problem with the 'no refund' policy but a company cannot refuse faulty items on the grounds it is "not on the system".

    Result:

25 minutes and 5 (3 in store, 1 on phone + his boss) staff members later I walked out with a cash refund.

They have now lost my £3000+ a year food shopping custom.

I explained had they said "we can refund or exchange" when I walked in I would have happily exchanged - and paid extra - for another box of washing powder. Instead I went to Tesco.

you would think in this era of 'every penny counts' that Asda will be thinking twice about this "new" policy they have introduced.
