  • Whatever warranty you go for it's worth taking out a Nationwide Classic CC as it entitles you to an extra year's warranty if it is purchased on the card and is over £100.

It costs nothing to get the card so is a no-brainer really.

We run our own warranty scheme which is backed be AXA and just a little bit cheaper than Domestic & General and we will soon have the ability to offer that on an interest free DD basis to spread the cost.

Soon we will have one that can cover multiple appliances as well, considerably cheaper than the likes of British Gas etc.

We (the repairers) just got sick of seeing people getting ripped off with warranties and decided to have our own scheme as we do a lot of the work for the insurers and retailers anyway. They are not in the appliance repair business, we are. ;)

I'm not sure what the rules are for advertising or if this would even be considered an advert by the moderators so I don't want to post links to the information without permission to do so first. However it can be a considerable saving over Currys, Comet, DAG etc.

Kwatt... you can't just leave it there... surely you can post a link, I really don't see why not, as I have to Domestic & General in my last post and no one has said I could not. PM me if you like!

    Hi Getoblast,

I just don't want to be a bad boy and start soliciting, or being seen as if I am, by the mods. Running my own forums I realise that there's a fine line between blatent spamming and actually helping, the latter being what I'm trying to do.

There's two things I'd point you toward, the first one being this article which, to be fair, I wrote a while ago so apologies if it's a bit out of date, but you'll get the gist of it. Basically I seldom recommend extended warranties to people although I can see why you would want them, but if you buy decent machines then you don't really need them.

Let me put it this way, it's like car insurances only instead of the careful and/or older drivers paying for the young reckless ones, in our industry you're paying for the high repair costs on the rubbish. It's all about risk mitigation.

This is why on another little project that I happen to be involved in, we could secure an underwritten warranty on a washing machine which was proved to be more reliable at a far lower cost than you could imagine. In fact it is about half the cost of a normal high street price, just because the scope is limited to one product and that allowed us to have a machine insured for ten years!

The point I'm trying to make and, likely failing, is that on a cheapo machine that's getting hammered then yes, insurance is really needed as it is very likely to fail. But if you add the cost of the warranty on would you not have been better to buy a better machine in the first place? If you see what I mean, the problem being of course that most people haven't a clue as it's just a sea of white boxes in the shop and, other then features and price, there appears little difference between them.

The rough info on the insurance can be found here but there's no pricing on there as yet. Again, I don't like to beat people over the head with this stuff unless they really want to know about it and these policies were aimed squarely to serve the independent repairers and retailers, not the public directly. That said, there's no reason why we can't sell them direct, I've just never bothered to promote it.

But on that £480 Bosch you're looking at about £130 to take it to full five year cover.

The other option is to buy one that comes with cover, Gorenje do some, as do Miele and so doe the indies with the ISE washer. Both Gorenje and ISE can be had for less than the £480 with five year cover.

I hope all that makes sense, helps and is understandable.

We bought a Bosch a few months ago from coopelectricalshop, and we got it for over £100 less than the shops. It was delivered in about 4 days.

Our previous Bosch lasted for nearly 10 years, doing at least 1 load a day (and had never been repaired either).

The previous Bosch was one of the cheaper models, and so is our new one - we paid around £230 for it. It can do 6kg on a cotton load, or 3kg on the other programmes. up to 1000rpm.

    Happy shopping :)

We bought a Dyson 6 years ago and it has been absolutely wonderful.

In that time we have had 2 problems and the aftercare service has been exceptional. The second time was in March this year and a technician came out, updated some software and all without charge. (We have no extended cover).

    Excellent!
