Litter tray in bedroom?

Hi All, I'm back for some advice regarding Rupert the cat.

He's blind and it has taken some time to settle in and find his way around. It took a while for him t consistently poo in his litter tray (2 of them) rather than on the floor but we'd gotten to two straight weeks and eerything seemed to be fine.

So I decided to let him into the bedroom so that he can sleep with me. He was crying in the night and I thought this would help calm him down. This was ok for a a week or two but the last two days he has not used his litter tray as normal and is going in the bedroom. I found the first last night (trod in it) and this morning I had a kitty hat trick (wee, poo and vomit) in the bedroom.

What do I do now? Do I keep the bed thing going and bring a litter tray in so that he can go if he is caught short? Should I knock the bed thing on the head completely? Any other dieas?

I'd have a litter tray in the bedroom, because it sounds as if he really likes being with you at night.

I put disability ramps to the bed when my dogs get old.

Love the phrase 'kitty hat trick' !

You are really kind to be having a blind cat. Good on you.

I agree with moggymutt....any cat that cat that wants to be with me in bed gets it's way. I know a litter tray in there is not a lovely thing in the bedroom, but it beats stepping out of bed into cat poop....oh and LOVE the idea of a 'kitty hat trick' (the idea, note, not the reality! )

    How about this?

I was going to make something similar but never got around it so ended up buying this in white and putting it in the bathroom.

Would your boy be able to find the kitty lit in something like this?

Thank you everyone for your ideas. I do love having him in the room with me, hat tricks aside, but I'm increasingly feeling like it is one step forward, two steps back with Rupert.

First night all was fine,he used the litter tray in the night, I cleaned it before work, second night was good too and today he pooped on the bedroom carpet whilst I was at work. The clean litter tray was right next to him! There's another in the lounge where he's used to them being!

I was not happy to put it mildly, the idea behind having him in the bedroom was to solve a problem (crying) not create new ones. I'm just getting increasingly frustrated.

I have 4 male cats and 1 female dog - 3 cats and the dog sleep with me, 4th cat sleeps on the bed when I am NOT there but as soon as I go to bed.. he goes off.

I do not have a litter tray in the bedroom but it is a small 2 bed flat and I have 2 massive litter trays in the living room.

But I can never ever have my bedroom door shut as the dog sleeps in the doorway half of her inside the bedroom and half outside. And the cats are always on the WRONG side of the dorr - if I locked them in they want out, if I lock them out they want in - much easier just to keep the bedrrom door open, for me here anyway...

Do you only have one tray? Some cats like to pee in one and poo in another. Perhaps having 2 separate trays would help?

Oh Brallaqueen, how frustrating for you!
Did he use the same spot again, I presume you cleaned it with biological washing powder? I swear by RX66 enzymatic cleaner, it has saved my bedroom carpets after a couple of mishaps.
Coming at the problem sideways....would Rupert take to a raw diet at all? Because then the poops are hard little nuggets that hardly smell and make no mess. Maybe it is not the answer, but it does make it a lot easier to clean up!

thank you for listening to my venting.

I do have two trays for him, now one has been shifted to the bedroom he is still using them both but wees only. I could get a third and try that? only a few quid.

He was pooping in the same spot so I cleaned it with biopowder and moved the tray over it - so of course he pooped in a different spot today. ARGH!

There has not been one day this week without a mishap.

I'm cleaning the carpet and of course I don't eat food off the floor or anything but part of me is going 'yuck I have pooey carpets, that's disgusting, I'm living in a germy disgusting flat'

Oh, I just don't know what to do for the best.

Paddypaws101 He wouldn't be able to eat a raw diet sadly, as he also has no teeth!

Brallaqueen, I have a rescue boy with only a couple of teeth left and he manages just fine on raw food. Most of what he gets is minced (either home made including bones, or from Natural Instinct ) but he happily has a go at chunks and even bones!
This must all be terribly stressful for you, I know you did a wonderful thing by rescuing him but you did not sign up for this! Have you checked back with the rescue to see if they can offer any advice?

have you got an 'Open' litter tray? could you get one which is enclosed and see how he gets on with that? or pop a chair over the tray and drape a towel to form a Tent loo?
he may feel a bit 'exposed' and is expressing his feelings by poo-ing outside the tray?

or is the tray too 'clean and hygienic and he cant 'smell' where to go?
