new TOM TOM but no sd card? got one won't connect to ?? ani ideas PLEASE :)

Options
Morning,
I've a TOM TOM 510 that my sister in law brought from her catalogue and when she returned it as unused (as she brought a better deal from Halfords) the catalogue company said the sd card and activation code was missing and wouldn't accept it back and returned it to her, we know the card and code was there but think it must have gone missing in transit ?!?! anyway she's now passed onto me as it is no good to her, I've brought from a guy on ebay another sd card but it won't accept it, her card from her tom tom will work in mine and my card from ebay will work in hers so what I'm trying to find out is how to get my sd card to work in mine keeps coming up with "sorry this is not the correct activation code for this propduct 'UK_IEplus_major_roads_of_WE now the guy we brought of has tried his best to sort it and we can't work it out, so any suggestions would be great,

Many thanks :D
a please & thank you is all it takes

Once the maps have been activated, they aren't easily transferable as the activation code is unique to the unit ID that was originally used.
As far as I know - there are no ways to get around this, at least, no way that can be discussed on this forum.

Bottom line is - you need to buy the maps youself
  • if that's the case I can't understand why her card will work in mine and her machine but the one I've purchased will not work in mine says "sorry this is not the correct activation code for this product 'UK_IEplus_major_roads_of_WE but when I put it in her machine works fine, so the problem mustn't be with the card as it works fine in her machine machine?? confusing eh

You could try making a copy of her card to use in yours then?

First off totally back up both cards {make sure you copy any the hidden files] to your PC & then delete everything on your card & paste the other cards files on yours.

Can't you just swap cards then?

done that, and both cards work in her machine and only one will work in mine, just get that same message, really strange.

    Hi,
I had pretty much the same problem a while ago after purchasing the North America map for my TT710. After much searching I came across this link on the TomTom website which after following the instructions solved the problem straight away.

    Hope it helps

If I recall, the map and the device itself are locked in some way, so that a map, once activated will only work with a specific device. Hence your two cards work on the one device, and not on the other.

You are probably going to need to buy a map. The activation process is not easily "overcome", from what I have read.

    Regards,
