I've got a folder on my desktop, containing a folder of images, and an mp4 video.
When I try to delete the folder, I get:-
Error Deleting File or Folder
Cannot delete (name of file).mp4: Access is denied.
Make sure disk is not full or write-protected
and that the file is not currently in use.
The disk can't be write-protected, since it's the desktop, and I can't see what could be currently using it.
I've tried restarting the computer, but that doesn't help.

files/folder have rights and owners and can be read only, right click on it, and look at properties and ownership
some program may be holding it open http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/opened_files_view.html
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-gb/sysinternals/bb896655.aspx
media players, virus scanners may be the most likely!!

Do you (or have you ever) used a filesharing programme (Vuze etc)?
If so (and especially if this .mp4 came from Piratebay etc), you are probably seeding without even realising, so the file is in use.British Ex-pat in British Columbia!0 -

You should be able to delete read only though.
OP: What OS are you using? You should have a security tab as well, if not :
1. Launch Windows Explorer or My Computer.
2. Click on the Tools at the menu bar, then click on Folder Options.
3. Click on View tab.
4. In the Advanced Settings section at the bottom of the list, uncheck and unselect (clear the tick) on the “Use simple file sharing (Recommended)” check box.
5. Click OK.
Then have a look at the permissions for the file and containing folder.0 -
OK. I've unticked Read Only, but it still won't delete.0
