It's a known fact that Magnet Retail prices are extortionate.

I was too polite to mention that directly;).

I know this is MSE Meeps, but are you trying to do yourself out of commission? Or are you admitting that Magnet's retail prices are too high?:D Or have you changed employer?

It's all about money saving from me, if I can help someone get a better deal, then so be it. I'm not in it JUST for the money you know! I think I can safely say I've gone out of my way with helping people with designs, now I can help people know about an "under the table offer" to make sure they can take advantage.

And yes, sometimes prices are too high, I've been feeding that back to the bosses ever since I started working for them, especially as far as things like solid surface worktops, glass etc are concerned. I said the same with appliances a couple of years ago, now it's very rare you'll find any appliance for less.

But to be fair, some prices are high for a reason, due to the quality of the doors, whereas some of the doors that were sold at higher margins, have seen their prices drop accordingly in the last few months

    Oh and see below

I'm still with them, can't see me going anywhere else too soon either lol

Not always, considering that I've sold at least 40 kitchens this year...fitted...that were less than B&Q, Homebase, Wickes and Ikea.

So I'm presuming all those are "extortionate" too?

    Yes they are.

They just rely on heavy marketing and discount gimmicks to get people through the doors who are ignorant of the fact that they are being duped.

While I was choosing kitchens, I visited my local Magnet Retail which was right next door to Magnet Trade and eventually nicknamed the Retail bit 'Magnet Posh'

It is true that K&B is treated as a cash cow to a degree, but if you want posh showrooms that show you the dream. all products properly displayed and lit, then you should expect to pay a bit more for this than from the average branch of Howdens where you might see a couple of units if you are lucky....and have to imagine the rest yourself... the cost scales are slightly different to the company as well as to the clients..

Both my local Howdens and Magnet Trade actually had quite a decent display which fortunately included the kitchens which were on my shortlist

Oh, so who doesn't sell kitchens at "extortionate" prices then?

I had exactly the same attitude and response whilst I worked for magnets.
I think the product is good, just he approach to the market place and the long term staffs attitude is delusional.
Whilst I was there I was told they was the greatest kitchen company in the universe. Nothing beats them....

Did I say they were the greatest kitchen company in the universe? No. Are they the greatest? No. And I'm more than happy to say that whilst I'm still working for them. Are they better than the likes of B&Q and Ikea? Yes, of course they are, you're comparing apples and oranges (even with B&Q's new "rigid" carcases, they still aren't the same spec.) There approach to the market place has been the biggest issue for a LONG time now, but it is, slowly, changing...
It sounds impressive whilst you have nothing to compare it with.
40 kitchens is less than 1 a week and that's including going through a January sale period.
It's not worth shouting about, there's always someone out there with a bigger e-penis. :rotfl:

It wasn't a case of me shouting about selling 40 kitchens, 40 kitchens is nothing. I was making the point, that of the kitchens I've sold this year so far, 40 of them had been directly comparable to either one or more of the above and we had been cheaper.

Some kitchens have been more expensive than those, but have still bought from me, some have been more expensive and they have gone with the cheaper option. Likewise some of the people I've sold to wouldn't have touched the likes of B&Q or Ikea and I've been up against independents and I even lost one sale because we were too cheap, they ended up buying a SieMatic instead...

Maybe next time understand the post correctly before you get on your soap box..

In the first comment I was agreeing with you that sometimes helping someone is more valuable than the commission you could have earned.
I didn't say they was the greatest kitchen/company. I said that's what I was being told (by upper management.)

    Sorry if I misunderstood :)
The second part of the post was a friendly warning.
Your the one shouting figures on a public forum.
There's always a bigger fish in the sea that could spout off they've done 453 kitchens this year:p

The figures weren't the point I was making though. I was just proving the point that Magnet aren't always more expensive than the sheds...
