Having lots of limits unused means you have lots of available credit. This can actually harm your chances of credit applications being approved because they think you may not need or use them, or worse that you may become overcommitted easily if you draw down on all of them at once.

The best thing to do is keep available credit to a minimum at the same time as keeping actual debt to a minimum.

As for Shop Direct, yes they do increase limits quite rapidly but there's no point keeping them because of what I said above and also because nobody sane would buy anything from them.

I fully intend to get rid of them as soon as I get a credit card listed with a higher limit. the problem is that less than a year ago I had a £125 credit limit and that was all, you'll struggle to get further credit if that is all that is available. The current cards I have only offer £400 in total but I want to close one of them in order to get back my £200 security deposit so really need to get another card, one which will get the limit moving, apparently Vanquis are good for this.
I have numerous qualifications in Business and Finance, Accountancy, Health and Safety and am now studying Law.

Don't rely on anything I write as it may be wrong!!!
  • Off topic, but it sounds less believable than Moonbase Alpha (and I do like Space 1999)
