Electoral Vote ? I havent registered, why I am there ?

Hi

I am just wondering how come I am registered in Electoral Vote ? My council has sent me a letter that there are some people living in my house because they are registered in Electoral Vote and I was there too.

I have had credit cards 3 years ago, also I have registered in Equifax credit rating agency few months ago

I pay dd on BT line Orange and more bills.

When I checked Equifax, it's said that I am registered in Electoral Vote

When I go to the website (aboutmyvote) there is no other way to register there by filling a form.

I havent filled in any form, and I have never ever been voting in my life.

  • Maybe someone else living in your house filled the form in for the whole house?

AFAIK, it is illegal not to register, even if you don't vote.

I'd be happy - why do you not want to be registered? You can get yourself removed from the version that is sold to marketing companies if you're worried about junk mail.

Currently the UK does not require individual voter registration but instead a form is completed for a household.

Are you British or otherwise eligible to vote?

In this country there is also no legal imperative to vote - unlike some other countries.

One resident can complete the form giving the names of all residents.

As said by others... what's your problem?

Thank you guys for all your comments.

ok the problem is my landlord is having a discount on council tax...25% this applies only for if there is one adult person living at the household. however I have received the letter saying that council is investigating my household as there is more then one person living here. this is an statement:

... "We are currently in the process of reviewing all claims for council tax discounts. According to our records you are receiving a 25% discount on your account because you are the only counting adult living at your property. However, I note that from electoral registration details that E. **** and K **** are registered at the property. Please could you confirm whether these persons are resident at the property and if so from what date ?" ...

thats why i have created this thread as I have no idea how come I am on the list of electoral registration. ?

    I'm a gal :)

It is almost certain that one of your housemates has filled the form in for the whole house, and as I say, it is illegal not to be registered. You can be fined up to £1000 for not doing so.

ok so this is normal when you are registered for electoral vote ? I came to this country 5 years ago. I pay taxes insurance, I have credit cards. recently have been checking my credit report. Two bank accounts. I used to be self employed etc.

how about my other address ? I thought if you change your address you have to report that to the electoral register again. is that right ? I dont really understand why I am there without registration.

I know this is important to be registered as this helps with Credit Rating for obtaining Loan or Mortgage in the future

The thing is I did not know that my current house hold had that discount.

Dont miss understood my point. I am happy to be registered but, how come I have got registered ? Thats the question :)

I bet your landlord isn't happy he's been caught evading tax though! Are you living in an HMO? If not, you might be liably for the consequences.

The law says that you have to be registered to vote. Every year the council sends out a list of people that it has registered at the property, and if anything is wrong then it has to be sent back with correct details on it.

As others have suggested, I imagine that someone else living at the house just filled it in and sent it back earlier this autumn.

Does your landlord live at the property or somewhere else? I'm a little confused by the suggestion that he is claiming single person's discount.

If he lives somewhere else, do you pay him an amount to cover the council tax, and he pays the council directly - or do you pay the council directly?

How many of you are living in the property?

I suspect the registration form which had the previous occupants details on it has been amended with the addition of the OP and without the removal of the previous incumbents.

It now looks like three people live there.

Perhaps the OP can clarify how many adults reside in the property in question?
