It's for smokeless coal.
Was just wondering if it was safe to use when gas central heating is turned off as the fire use to heat the radiators and water.0 -
If you have a combi boiler that will be what is called a sealed / pressurised system, the solid fuel stove will undoutebly be an open or vented system. I would imagine the pipework has been disconnected if it used to do your heating system as its a right fiddle connecting the two different systems together.
You need to look for pipe work going to your fire and ensure the ends of the pipe are open and have not been sealed up, until you are sure they are open DO NOT USE THE FIRE.
If you are not sure then get a plumber in to make sure they are open, the reason being that if the pipes are sealed and there is still some residual water left in the old boiler it could turn it into a pressure vessle and could lead to an explosion. If there is water in there and the pipes have been sealed the steam created has no where for it to go, thus the pressure inside builds up which could lead to an explosion.
A few years ago the health and safety exec issued a warning about folks reusing old fire places that had back boilers in, I believe there was one explosion in a domestic dwelling which led to the safety notice being issued. You may click thanks if you found my advice useful0
