Modern Oil boilers

I have a gas man coming out today to give me a quote to move to gas. I don't expect I am going to like the price of this, and was wondering, as the local council have a oil boiler replacement scheme on, should I go for this instead?
I think my boiler must be at least 15-20 years old. My radiators hardly heat - one doesn't at all - and it takes around an hour for enough water to make a bath. Would a modern oil boiler be more efficient on oil usage, and solve the problems above?

The first thing to ascertain is exactly what is wrong with your CH system. It appears likely that your radiators are filled with sludge, and a power flush could fix the problem
In any case a new boiler(gas or oil) will require system to be power flushed before installation.
Oil at current prices is about 50% more expensive per kWh than gas, so in the long term a gas boiler will save money.0 -
It is cheaper in the long run only if wholesale gas prices remain below wholesale oil prices. It is not cheaper by default. I've no intention of getting a so called 'power flush' as, having had two in two years, they have had no effect, save for costing me in the region of £40 a pop each time for oil service which doesn't work. I think the problem is that the boiler is ancient and rather exposed out my back yard.0
