Situation: two phones on fixed Vodafone contract, which ends next July or August, cannot get out of it until then, have to keep paying until contract ends.
One of them (mine) is hardly ever used any more: only when we're away, on holiday together, and might need to find each other if one wanders off in foreign city. (it happens........) and very occasional use in UK.
No need for internet browsing, no need to access emails or anything else, only need for occasional calls and texts. That's it. No need for camera or apps or anything else.
Problem 1: the only solid signal up here is Vodafone. Therefore should stick with them for the odd UK-based need.
Problem 2: current handset years old Nokia, don't mind getting replacement but do not need blackberry or anything else with browsing, apps, or camera.
What to do first? Research basic bog-standard handset (if these even exist) and get a Vf Sim for it? Get new handset from Vf's website and let them handle it, then I keep the same phone number - which would save some hassle?
Summary: Don't want years-long contract with Vf for one of the two phones on their contract any more. Have to stay with Vf because of signal quality up here. No point in paying monthly if it's not switched on for weeks on end. NEED to be able to use it in Europe, this is vital. Don't need camera or internet.
Not urgent, but any advice appreciated. Thanks.

Convert the existing Voda sim into payg when your ready and stick it in something like this. http://direct.asda.com/Nokia-100-Mobile-Phone---Vodafone/008718298,default,pd.html?utm_source=ggle-shop&utm_medium=css&utm_term=008718298&utm_content=Prepay%20Mobile%20Phone&utm_campaign=ad&cm_mmc=ad-css-_-ggle-shop-_-Prepay%20Mobile%20Phone-_-008718298&istCompanyId=71f4ae42-94c5-4821-aa58-05eff6da2486&istItemId=rqxwitpm&istBid=t
Making sure you put it on the appropriate Voda Payg tariff that does not require a monthly top up.0 -
you can buy a phone from places like Adsa for £8 and they are ok to, I have a friend who looses his phone on a weekly basis so just buys these.
Get yourself a sim from VF or use your old one out of your phone, all very straight forward.
Worth asking VF ifyou haven't already as some have been known to let you drop to a cheaper plan if you are having money issues, so worth asking.
Just make sure to buy a sim free phone or one locked to VF, then you will be able to just pop your old sim into it. then just ask VF to transfer your sim over to payg.0 -
Switch to VMV that runs on the VF network.
For example Ovivo which gives free monthly bundles: 100 minutes, 100 texts and 200 mb
No point in paying for what is free!0 -

Thanks sniggings, very straightforward help, just what I wanted.
Vf will not drop to a cheaper plan, ever. No way. EVER.
One learns the hard way to just get used to this, over the years. I can't go back through all that grief again; this time I'm pre-planning a way out.0
