• No problem, no harm done :)

I'd expect one of three things (in reality) to happen:

a) they realise, call up and you pay.
b) it happens automatically as per David's useful post number 8.
c) nothing and you get an early xmas present courtesy of Mr T.

• knowing my luck it will be C, although think they should put a sign up advising customers that this is what they do as could have saved time and money on my part as I know all payments due in/out of my accounts down to the penny and any differences I panic (or ring the husband telling him off :rotfl:)
• I always get £1 per authorised when I use Pay at the pump, though this normally shows in a reduction of my available balance rather than showing up on my online statement.

Tesco has pre-authorised £1 to check that your card is valid before allowing you to use the pump. The full amount will appear on your statement, when the statement is produced, on your statement date.

The pre-authorisation is to check the card before you dispense,, then over a couple of days the pre-authorised amount is replaced with the actual amount.. Its better than if they chose to debit the maximum amount possible then replaced with the lower amount..

Hello

I use pay@pump regularly and they always seem to do that to me. When you check your cc account in a couple of days (probably Tuesday or thereabouts) you will find that they have taken the whole amount and the £1 will disappear. The £1 usually stays in my "payments pending" section for a few days longer but it always evens its self out eventually. Don't panic just yet ;)

Morning

Wonder if anyone can help on this;

Last night I used pay@pump with my credit card, fuel amount purchased was over £50, yet upon checking my credit card statement this morning there was a £1 showing waiting to be applied.
..

Do you mean it has debited and is showing on your statement or is showing as a authorisation (out of your avaiable balance).

These pumps often/always auth for £1 and will debit for the full amount.

They pre-auth £1 to check it is a good card. They then collect the correct amount 1-2 days later. The alternative is they auth the full £99 max which would leave a lot of people very unhappy. My Cap1 shows full details of pending transactions immediately so I know exactly where these odd ones come from ie Zavvi pre auth'd 1p the other day.

As a lot of people filling up in europe find out. When they call to find why their cards are declined after they have filled their cars up a few times. When they are running close to their limits.

A few have already mentioned the correct scenario. The Pay@Pump terminal pre-authorises £1 on your card to test it is a legit card with available funds. Then after you fill up, the card terminal 'polls' at night all of it's transactions that day to the banks for processing. Then 1-2 days later you are debited the full amount. :)
