in Credit cards
Morning
Wonder if anyone can help on this;
Last night I used pay@pump with my credit card, fuel amount purchased was over £50, yet upon checking my credit card statement this morning there was a £1 showing waiting to be applied.
Knowing that fraudsters start with a small amount to see if you realise, I rang my credit card company straight away to see what this £1 payment was for.
Turns out its my fuel purchase from last night and the store instead of taking the full amount has only processed a £1.
Can they come back at a later date and request the extra £50 odd pounds or am i lucky and got a full free tank in time for christmas?
Not bothered either way, but it would be a nice little something when funds are tight......

Yes, you owe for the petrol and they have 6 years to pursue you.
Had they charged £100 would you expect them to be able to keep the difference?

As far as I am aware, they are entitled to claim back the extra monies but fingers crossed for you they dont aha!0

I know I owe for the petrol, and have no issue paying for what I bought, what I was asking was the protocol on a company taking the wrong amount out of my CC as even Halifax couldn't help me on that score.:question:0 -
It will differ company to company as to how they will proceed but legally the position is what I said in post 2.
They may not pursue you since the cost of litigation will far outweigh their loss of petrol so you may get lucky.Thinking critically since 1996....0 -

Why are you talking pursuing me for the payment, they can have it. What I was asking is has this happened to anyone else as I've never had a wrong amount deducted and as its all computerised how can a computer make a big error like that.
You're making out that I refuse to pay for what I owe. That is 100% wrong. If I owe something I pay for it, but it is out of my hands when it is down to a company taking the payment out of my account and not me sending a payment.0 -
Recently we have noticed that a Tesco Wine purchase resulted in an initial, I think, £2 deduction on the Credit card appearing, followed within a few days by the full amount being taken.0

Oh right, wonder if that is what they are doing then, although don't understand the logic in that (from a companies point of view) as you have to pay for each transaction they process.
First time it has happened to me at a Pay@Pump, but what you say does seem plausible. Wish they told me that at the pump as then wouldn't have wasted money ringing Halifax panicking my card had been cloned.0 -
You are misunderstanding my post - if they do not take it correctly from the transaction last night then the authorisation from your card may expire and they will need to approach you to get payment from the card.
You asked in your first post if they can come back and take payment at a later date and I am saying that yes, they can. They have 6 years in which to take legal action to seek the payment if it is not forthcoming. I am not making out you will not be paying, so stop being so defensive, I am merely clarifying your legal position.Thinking critically since 1996....0 -
Apologies somethingcorporate, problem with the written word is that it can be missunderstood. I wasn't asking for the legality of the situation as I agreed to the payment been taken when i put my card in the machine.
This is why I do not like forums, but I needed advice and didn't know where else to go.0
